No matter how many times it is told, the story of how Nick Vujicic who was born without limbs became a renowned motivational speaker remains very inspiring. He is best known for his best-selling book, Life Without Limits: Inspiration of a Ridiculously Good Life. Vujicic overcame the rare physical condition called tetra-amelia to make the best out of himself. His journey which included bouts with depression and even attempted suicide was far from an easy one, but fortunately, Vujicic overcame the greatest challenge of his life to become an inspiration to millions all over the world. The story of Nick Vujicic’s success cannot be complete without the mention of his family, especially his parents who ultimately aced the difficult task of raising a disabled child.

Who Are Nick Vujicic’s Parents?

The Vujicic family plunged into difficult times right after the birth of their son Nick on the 4th day of December 1982; the fact that he was their first child didn’t help the situation. His parents, Dušanka and Borislav Vujičić had migrated from Yugoslavia to Australian where Nick would be born in Melbourne.

Right after giving birth to the baby she’d carried for 9 months, Dušanka (Nick’s mom) was told that her son would never be like other regular kids as the tetra-amelia he was diagnosed with meant that his limbs would never fully form. She was so gutted that she could not even bear to behold nor hold him. Eventually, Nick Vujicic’s family would overcome the emotional trauma and accept their fate with determination to raise their young boy in the best way that they possibly could.

Nick’s parents had his toes which came fused together, separated through a special operation and as he grew, he was able to use them to grasp things, flip through pages of books, and perform several other functions like operating an electric wheelchair, a mobile phone, and computer without assistance.

What We Know About His Siblings

After a while, Dušanka and Borislav Vujičić decided to have more kids, thus Nick did not grow up alone. He was raised with two siblings: a sister named Michelle Vujičić and a brother called Aaron Vujičić. They were born without any medical condition.

According to a 2014 article, Michelle is a music artist who sometimes travels on mission trips with her brother Nick. The article also reveals the struggles of self-esteem that the siblings went through while attending the same school.

Because of the teasing that Nick’s siblings got, they struggled with accepting him as their brother and as such, refrained from associating much with Nick in public for fear of being mocked. However, the siblings eventually grew closer to each other.

How His Family Helped Him Become a Renowned Public Speaker

Through the times when young Nick was bullied at school and treated differently, his parents were always there for him. Thankfully, when the thoughts of suicide saturated his mind, he was able to overcome it.

To boost her son’s confidence and self-esteem, Dušanka showed Nick a story in a newspaper that she had read about a teenage boy who was living with a disability. This inspired Nick to take what would become his first step at becoming a renowned public speaker.

Nick’s parents were devout born-again Christians and raised their kids in the faith. They were active in church planting, as well as going on mission trips to several countries. His father penned a book on parenting which was published in 2014. Titled Raising the Perfectly Imperfect Child, the book detailed what Nick Vujicic’s family went through to raise him.

Three years later, on the 14th of May 2017, Nick’s father passed as a result of pancreatic cancer. He was 62 years old. Before his death, Borislav served as Chief Systems and Financial Officer for Attitude is Altitude Inc., an organization established by his son, Nick.

Nick Vujicic’s Family Life With Wife and Kids

Another major part of Nick Vujicic’s family life that has surprised many is how he was able to land a wife. His disability obviously did not take away his ability to woo a woman. Nick is married to Kanae Miyahara. They met in McKinney, Texas where Nick was giving a speech. Kanae was able to look past his physical disabilities and was immediately attracted to him.

On the 12th of February 2012, Nick and Kanae were married. His wife was born in Mexico to a Mexican mother and a Japanese father who was an agricultural engineer. She has a sister named Yoshie.

Nick and Kanae have four kids. Their first child, a son named Kiyoshi James Vujicic was born on the 13th of February 2013. Not long thereafter, they welcomed their second son, Dejan Levi Vujicic; he was born on the 7th of August 2015. They also have an identical set of twin daughters named Ellie Laurel and Olivia Mei. All of their kids were born without medical disorders.

Nick Vujicic’s family resides in Southern California. The man adores his wife and kids a great deal. He often shares their family pictures on his social media pages.
