Who Is Amanda Knox?

She was born in Seattle on the 9th of July 1987. Her mum Edda Mellas works as a mathematics teacher while her dad Curt Knox earns a living working as a vice-president of finance at Macy’s. Amanda has a younger sister named Deanna and two step-sisters named Delany and Ashley, her parents got divorced when she was little and her mom married Chris Mellas an Information Technology consultant.

Her early education was accomplished at Seattle Preparatory High School after which she joined the University of Washington in pursuit of a degree in Linguistics. She later left the shores of the United States and headed for Perugia Italy with plans to spend a year at the University for foreigners. She moved in with 21-year-old Meredith Kercher from London who was also in Italy to study Linguistics for a year. Amanda Knox also started dating Raffaele Sollecito, an Italian computer engineering student whom she met at a classical music concert.

On November 1, 2007, Knox’s flatmate was found dead in their home. She had been stabbed to death.

The Murder Case: Is Amanda Knox Innocent?

After her trial for the murder of her flatmate – Meredith Kercher which happened in 2007, Amanda, along with her then-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito both received prison sentences of 26 and 25 years respectively after being found guilty of the offense. It came to pass that both Amanda and her lover were discharged and acquitted in October of 2011 but were called back to stand another trial for the same murder because the Italian final court of appeal, the Court of Cassation went ahead to overturn their acquittals.

The duo was found guilty for the second time in February 2014 with Amanda Knox receiving a 28.5-year sentence while her boyfriend was slapped with 25 years. The next year 2015, their second conviction was again overturned by the Supreme Court of Italy when the defense called in a witness who testified to the fact that the duo was not in any way connected to the crime. Amanda and her lover were finally discharged and acquitted for the murder, but Amanda’s defamation of Kenyan lawyer Patrick Lumumba was upheld, and she received a three-year term and some fine.
