Curry was born on 19 November 1956, in Agaña, Guam, America to Hiroe Nagase and Robert Paul “Bob” Curry. Her father, an American from Pueblo, Colorado, had English and Irish ancestry while her mother is Japanese. Curry is the eldest of her parents’ children.

Ann Curry lived in Japan for several years as a child, attended the Ernest J. King School on the United States Fleet Activities Sasebo naval base in Sasebo, Nagasaki. Later, she moved to Ashland, Oregon, where she graduated from Ashland High School. She further graduated with a B.A. in Journalism at the University of Oregon in 1978.

The award-winning journalist and photojournalist began her profession as an intern at KTVL, Medford Oregon, in 1980. Notably, she was the first female reporter of that station because most women at that time considered reporting as old fashion or a dead end. After a short while with KTVL station, she joined KWG in Poland and reported for four years. She later moved to KCBS-TV in Los Angeles where she received two Emmy Awards for her humanitarian efforts.

Ann Curry came on board NBC Chicago in 1990 as a correspondent; reporting major international stories, interviewing some of the nations’ powerful men, filing stories and touring places feared by most journalists. So, he commissioned a blooper reel of Curry’s worst on-air mistakes and presented it to a staff member so she could be fired.

Bell initiated operation Bambi with a carefully thought out three-part plan:

1.) Persuade Lauer to extend his contract.

2.) Oust Ann Curry.

Working with Bell on Operation Bambi were NBC Universal CEO Steve Burke and eventually Matt Lauer, who obviously didn’t like his co-host, Ann. With this well thought out plan, Ann’s atmosphere of professional torture ended with a sack but Bell’s deed began to haunt them.

Furthermore, Ann Curry once had a fall in New York and was rescued by a troop of Boys’ Scouts who were on a Philmont training hike. Scout leader Rick Jurgens revealed that when they came across Curry, he recognized her but the youngsters didn’t know it was the Emmy-winning journalist.
