His early education was acquired from Kent Primary School from where he moved on to George Fischer Middle School where he spent a year. After his fifth grade, the budding star took the bold step and relocated to New York City to explore the horizon in the world of entertainment. While in NYC, he took a year to study dance at Happy Feet Dance School in Carmel, NY. He later moved on to The Harlem School of the Arts where he studied under the tutelage of former Lion King producer, Aubrey Lynch.

Upon the launch of his acting career in 2012, Caleb McLaughlin debuted in the short film Noah Dreams of Origami Fortunes and hot on the heels of his debut, he landed the role of Young Simba in the musical The Lion King (2012 to 2014), staged at the Minskoff Theatre. He also appeared in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (one episode), Unforgettable, Forever, as well as What Would You Do? (one episode).

He appeared in the aforementioned between 2013 and 2015 and moving on to 2016, he hit the jackpot with his portrayal of Lucas Sinclair in the hit Netflix series titled Stranger Things which is arguably his biggest act so far. The series did not only earn him recognition in prestigious awards but also put his name on the world map. Also in 2016, he played small roles in the TV programs Shades of Blue and Blue Bloods.
