The former NBA star was born Mayce Edward Christopher Webber III on March 1, 1973, to Doris and Mayce Webber Jr. in Detroit, Michigan. He was raised alongside 4 younger siblings. He had his high school education at Detroit Country Day School leading the school to 3 Michigan State High School Basketball Championships. In 1991, Webber received the Mr. Basketball of Michigan award and was also named the National High School player of the year.

Chris Webber played 2 years of college basketball with the University of Michigan during which he made it to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) finals twice. Following his top-notch collegiate career with the Michigan Wolverines men’s basketball team, Webber was selected by the Orlando Magic as the number one overall pick of the 1993 NBA draft. However, he was promptly traded in a swap deal to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for Penny Hardaway plus 3 subsequent first round picks.

Chris Webber spent only one season with the Warriors after which he was traded to the Washington Bullets/Wizards where he spent 4 seasons. During the 1996-97 season, Webber led the Bullets to their first NBA Playoffs in 9 years, however, they succumbed to the superior power of ‘s Chicago Bulls. He joined the Sacramento Kings in May 1998 where he had the longest (7 years) and the most successful stint of his career. Following a career-threatening knee injury incurred in 2003, Chris Webber’s career was unfortunately sent into a downward spiral. He spent 2 more seasons with the Sacramento Kings before he was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in February 2005. Webber later joined the Detroit Pistons in January 2007 for his final full NBA season. In January 2008, he rejoined the Golden State Warriors in what would have been his final season, however, it was brought to an abrupt end due to the lingering knee injury. Chris Webber eventually announced his official retirement from the game on March 25, 2008. The following year, his #4 jersey was retired by the Sacramento Kings.
