Joining the team, he made his pro-league debut in their 3 – 1 loss to the St. Louis Blues in October. He ended his rookie year, making 45 appearances for the Oilers with 48 points including 16 goals and 32 assists. At the end of the season, he finished third in the rookie of the year award. The following year, Connor made history as the fastest fourth active player to record up to 100 points in a season. Not just that, he also became the youngest player to captain a team in NHL history.

Finishing the 2016 season with a record of 100 points, Connor was honored with the both Art Ross and Ted Lindsay Trophy for his wonderful performance. Notably, he is the third youngest player after and to win the award. Amazingly, he got an eight-year contract extension worth $100 million in July 2018. After recording a total of 108 points that season, he won the Art Ross and Ted Lindsay Trophy for the second season consecutively.
