Dreams, they say, don’t become reality through magic. It takes determination and hard work. For this reason, 11-year-old Gary Harris had to put up a poster that read “What did you do today that will get you into the NBA?” in his room.

While it is heart-warming to know that this fella has been able to accomplish his childhood dream, the following are the things to know about the Denver Nuggets shooting guard.

Who Is Gary Harris?

Any fan of this handball game should know a thing or two about Gary Harris. Born in Fishers, Indiana on 14th September in the year 1994, this chap announced his intent to dominate the NBA league during his high school days. As a student of Hamilton Southeastern High School located in the city he was born in, Gary thrived in American football but earned widespread admiration and recognition for his prowess as a basketballer. By the time he was set to move on to college, several platforms rated him as one of the best players among his peers. In addition to that, he received a handful of coveted recognitions including being named to 2012’s McDonald’s All-American and enthroned as Indiana Mr Basketball of the year.

Gary didn’t lower his bars when he joined the Spartans of Michigan State to have his college career. He blazed for the team from 2012 to 2014 and gathered more awards. As a freshman, he was named to second-team All-Big Ten and Big Ten All-Freshman team of 2013. That same year, Gary was celebrated as the Big Ten Freshman of the Year. He kept up with his remarkable performance as a sophomore, earning for himself, the First-team All-Big Ten and Big Ten All-Defensive Team recognition.

In April 2014, Gary Harris was convinced he’s ready to kick off his professional career. As such, he decided to forgo his remaining years of college eligibility and announced that he would be available for the year’s NBA draft. In view of the proficiency he demonstrated with the Spartans, it was no surprise that the Chicago Bulls came for him. He was selected with the 19th overall pick in the first round. Nonetheless, his stay with the team was a very short one as he was soon traded to the Denver Nuggets. Harris has been with the team since then. Sometime in October 2017, he received an $84 million contract that extended his stay with the side for an additional four years.

His Parents And Family

Granted that this Denver Nuggets shooting guard was named after his father Gary Harris Sr., he got his basketball talent from his mom, Joy Holmes-Harris. From what we’ve learned, she played basketball at Purdue, a public university in West Lafayette, Indiana for more than four years (1987 to 1991). Records have it that she is one of the finest players Purdue has ever had. As a senior, she averaged 9.2 rebounds and 21.5 points. She also received the first-team All American honor before moving on to kick off a professional career in the game, first in Japan and then WNBA and ABL (ASEAN Basketball League). Joy later became an assistant coach for a women’s basketball college team.

Whilst Gary Harris Sr. devoted his time to ensure his son is disciplined, Joy embraced the responsibility of nurturing Gary’s skills and teaching him the things that would help him to become an accomplished professional basketballer.

Is He Gay?

As far as we can tell, Gary Harris is completely focusing on his career and barely has the time to keep a romantic affair. However, it is believed on several quarters that the NBA star has not had any relationship because he is sexually attracted to his own gender and is scared of what would become of his career if he comes out of the closet. Whereas these claims have not been strongly authenticated, we have traced its source to a tweet the Nuggets’ playmaker allegedly made about gay porn way back in 2011. Below is a screenshot of the tweet.

Disregarding this, there are no other reasons which have substantiated the speculations made about Gary’s sexuality. Until the basketballer debunks or affirms these claims, his sexual orientation would remain a mystery.

His Height, Weight, And Body Measurements

Beyond being disciplined, talented, and skillful, professional basketball players are expected to be of good height, have an ideal weight, and maintain an excellent level of physical fitness. As various advantages have been associated with being very tall in this sport, it is believed that the performance of a player whose height is shorter than the average height of basketball players is largely limited.

Thankfully, Gary Harris has little to worry about in this regard as he is 4 inches taller than 6 feet (1.93 m). This works fine for his 210 lb (95.3 kg) weight, ensuring the reputation of this bloke as a sturdy but flexible player. Other details of his vital body measurements as at the time he got drafted are listed below:

Wingspan – 6’6.75″

Standing Reach – 8’0″

Hand Length – 8.5″

Hand Width – 9.5″
