Obviously, his popularity has sparked off people’s interest in his personality, especially as regards his soaring career and private life. To know more about the multi-talented American citizen, here are facts we have to share with you.

Lin Manuel Miranda’s Early Life and Ethnicity

Lin is a native of Upper Manhattan, New York City and marked his 40th birthday on the 16th day of January 2020 as he was born on the same day and month in 1980. His father Luis A. Miranda, Jr. is a political adviser to the New York Mayor while his mother Luz Towns was a well known clinical psychologist. Both Lin’s parents are Puerto Ricans but when questions about his ethnicity are raised, the actor describes himself as a quarter Mexican with a remote Black and Caucasian ancestry. Lin has siblings and together, they were raised in a Hispanic neighbourhood of Inwood and while growing up, his parent would send him to spend some time with his grandparents in Peurto Rico.

For his education, Lin had both his elementary and high school education at Hunter College Elementary and High School. He then proceeded to Wesleyan University where he majored in Theatre Studies and graduated in 2002. Lin Manuel Miranda is one of those people whose current career is a product of their childhood passion. His exposure to several musical genres, especially Salsa, helped to spark off his love for theatre. He even wrote his first Broadway musical, Les Misérables, at the age of 7. His love for playwriting grew stronger through the help of his mother who would advise him to take a pick from every experience — whether it’s chores or heartbreak or losing friends.

Miranda loved the idea of writing plays because he could confidently play any of the parts he wanted and when he was in college, he exposed himself to more playwriting and performance. He has since taken part in the creation of several Broadway musicals, including the West Side Story, Merrily We Roll Along, and Bring It On: The Musical. As an actor, he has appeared in films like The Odd Life of Timothy Green, The Polar Bears, and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. You could also find his roles in television series such as Do No Harm, DuckTales, and Bartlett, among many others.

Meanwhile, Lin gained inspiration to write his successful musical Hamilton from Alexander Hamilton’s biography written by Ron Chernow, which he read. It then took him six years to eventually come up with a complete version of Hamilton. The Broadway musical debuted in 2015 and it did win favourable views and critical acclaim. Thanks to its commercial success, Hamilton won 11 Tony Awards out of a record 16 nominations.

Who Is Lin Manuel’s Wife?

While Lin was getting busy around the world with his self-made Broadway musicals, his wife, Vanessa Nadal was holding down the home front. Lin married Vanessa in 2010. They knew each other since high school while Lin was a senior and Nadal a sophomore. However, their love life only began almost a decade after high school when Lin himself reached out to his now-wife on Facebook.

Lin Manuel and Vanessa started dating in 2005 after he invited her to one of his shows. They visited each other more often and Miranda even thanked her publicly when he won his first Tony Award in the Best Musical category for his smash Broadway hit In the Heights, in 2008. The marriage between the two eventually took place on September 5, 2010, and the ceremony was spectacular with Miranda performing the “Fiddler on the Roof” song at their fairytale wedding.

Unlike her theatre genius husband, Vanessa was a scientist working for Johnson & Johnson before she recently decided to go to Fordham for law school. She attended MIT for undergrad and practised at law firm Jones Day until 2015.

Lin Manuel Miranda and Vanessa Nada’s Growing Family

Lin Manuel Miranda and his wife Vanessa Nada welcomed their first child, a son Sebastian in November 2014. On February 2018, which is almost four years after welcoming Sebastian, Nadal gave birth to their second son named Francisco.

After winning a Tony Award for his 2008 Broadway hit In the Heights, Miranda jointly purchased a 1,125 square feet duplex penthouse with his father Luiz A. Miranda. However, he didn’t reside in the house with his parents, rather, he moved with his wife to the Castle Village apartment complex in Washington Heights.

The former family home of the Mirandas located in the Inwood section of New York City has now been put up for sale at $949,000.
