Hope Solo is arguably one of the best goalkeepers that the United States Women’s National Team has ever had. She was the starting goalie for the national side for 16 years from 2000 to 2016 during which she won two Olympic gold medals and made it to the FIFA Women’s world cup final twice, winning the 2015 trophy. Solo achieved many feats in her career; among which is the record for the most career shutouts. She recorded a total of 109 wins from 202 appearances and had the longest undefeated streak in 55 games.

Solo’s career began to dwindle in 2014 as a result of a domestic violence case where she was accused of beating up her step-sister and nephew. The controversial and highly publicized case dragged on for longer than Solo would have liked and culminated in the end of her career in 2016. She was dismissed from the national team for comments she made about the Swedish team after Rio Olympics. The US Team had lost the game to Sweden after which Solo called them cowards for their defensive style of play.

In June 2018, the City of Kirkland, Washington threw out the case against Solo on grounds that the situation was unlikely to reoccur and that witnesses were unwilling to come forth to testify.

Solo has not played any competitive match since 2016 and has since involved herself with other aspects of the sports including landing a broadcasting gig with Ireland’s RTE Sport network. She entered the US Soccer elections in February 2018 but Carlos Cordeiro beat her to the position.

Hope Solo is married to Jerramy Ryan Stevens, a former American football tight end who played in the National Football League for 8 years (2002 – 2010) for the Seattle Seahawks and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The couple got married on Steven’s birthday on the 13th of November 2012, a day after Stevens was arrested for allegedly assaulting Solo. Stevens was released on his wedding day after the court determined that there was insufficient evidence to hold him back in custody.

Jerramy Stevens prior to his wedding-eve arrest had had a series of run-ins with the law beginning as far back as his high school years when he was arrested and charged with felony assault. As of the time of his wedding, he was on probation stemming from his October 2010 arrest in Florida for marijuana possession. His arrest a day to his wedding meant that he had violated the terms of his probation and thus returned to jail on November 28, 2012.

Solo and Stevens attended the University of Washington almost during the same time. Solo attended from 1999 to 2003, while Stevens was at the school from 1998 to 2002. However, they only began dating in mid-August 2012 after Solo returned from the Olympics in Brazil.

Stevens, a first round 28 pick in the 2002 NFL Draft could have had a longer and better-decorated career in the NFL if not for his frequent run-ins with the law. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers who signed him on 29th April 2007 waived him on October 25, 2010, two days after he was arrested in Florida for marijuana possession. His last game with the side was his final NFL game.

Steven’s past criminal allegations include rape in July 2000 and at least 6 cases of traffic violations.
