Milan and the Croatia national football team. He is lauded for his great techniques as a defender and his shooting and tackling skills which are very effective and delivers accurately.

Who Is Ivan Strinić?

Ivan Strinić is one of the key players in the Croatia national team as well as a choice defender for Italian club A.C. Milan which he joined in July 2018, as a free agent after playing one season for UC Sampdoria.

He was born on the 17th day of July 1987 in the Split city of Croatia, formerly in SFR Yugoslavia. Split is the second-largest city of Croatia and the largest city of the region of Dalmatia (one of the four historical regions of Croatia).

Strinic’s football career started at Hajduk Split where he played until 2006. Following the end of his course with the club, he moved to France and played for Le Mans B after which he returned to Croatia. In Croatia, he continued his youth career with NK Hrvatski Dragovoljac. Having played for a number of clubs, he has become sure-footed and his talent and prowess were glaring enough to have him being scouted by the two biggest and most popular Croatian football clubs Dinamo Zagreb and Hajduk Split.

He joined HS for a second time in the summer of 2008 and would play there for the next three years even though he had almost sealed a deal with Dinamo Zagreb. While in the club, Ivan Strinić played in the position of left-back and proved himself as the team regular starter. In the same season, he scored four goals in the league, including one in the eternal derby against Dinamo Zagreb in a 2–1 win.

The following season was game for the left-back. He played in all of his club’s matches in the UEFA Europa League campaign, became the starting left-back in the national side as well as playing in eight out of nine qualifiers for Euro 2012. At the beginning of 2011, Strinic left Hajduk Split; he appeared in 77 matches and scored five goals. Following his departure, he signed a deal with Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk on 27 January for a contract fee of 4 million euro.

In his first appearance with the club, he scored an extremely impressive goal in a 2-2 draw against Tavriya Simferopol. He made five other appearances that season and 27 more the following season as well as played all three games in Croatia’s Euro 2012 campaign in Poland. He maintained his starting position through the next season (2012-13) both in his club and in the national team making 35 appearances in all. His contract with Dnipro ended in December 2014 after which he moved to Italy and signed with the Italian club, S.S.C. Napoli.

Following his career in Napoli, he joined another Italian club, Sampdoria in the summer of 2017 for a reported fee of €2 million. After playing for one season and in 17 games, Ivan Strinić joined Milan alongside Pepe Reina as a free agent on a three-year deal.

International Career

On the international scene, Ivan made his senior debut with his national team in a friendly match against Austria on 19 May 2010 and has been flying his national jersey since then. He has been a regular starter since then and has played in a number of prominent games. Ivan participated in UEFA 2012 held in Poland where he provided an assist for to equalize with Italy in a 1-1 draw and played in all three games in group stage.

Also, he featured impressively during the 2014 World Cup qualification matches although he missed out on the finals in Brazil due to a hamstring injury.

The Croatia national team choice left-back was named in Croatia’s squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia and in one of his appearances, was dubbed the man of the game. He got close to lifting the 2018 FIFA world cup trophy with his team in Russia but France took the day in a 4 – 2 win.
