Child prodigy Jackie Evancho has strongly proven that she has a voice way beyond her years. The classical crossover singer took the music industry by storm at the age of 10 when she emerged as runner-up in the 5th season of America’s Got Talent. In just a short time, Evancho has come to set many musical records. She is the youngest solo artist to go platinum in the United States and the youngest top-5 debut artist in UK history.

She appeared on the political radar in 2017 when she was honored by the presidency to perform the US national anthem at the inauguration of on January 20th of the same year. Her first encounter with Trump was back in 2011 when the billionaire invited her to perform at Mar-A-Lago, his estate in Palm Beach, Florida.

Jackie was born Jacqueline Marie Evancho on the 9th of April 2000 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she was raised as a Catholic by her parents Lisa and Michael Evancho. She attended Pine-Richland High School but would later receive her education online. Jackie began singing from a very early age and took a particular liking to classical crossovers. She began entering talent competitions right before turning 8 years old.

Subsequently, in 2009, her mature voice attracted the attention of record producer David Foster who selected her to sing at his concert at Newark, New Jersey. By the end of 2009, Evancho independently released her first record titled, Prelude to a Dream which was made up of covers of classical crossover hits.

She then started a YouTube channel and began gaining substantial traction. Thanks to voting from her fans, Evancho would come to book a spot on the 5th version of AGT after two earlier unsuccessful attempts. She emerged as runner-up on the show and signed a record deal with SYCO music and Columbia Records.

Post-AGT, Jackie Evancho went on to solidify her stardom beginning with her first EP O Holy Night which topped the Billboard’s Classical Albums chart and made it to number 2 on the Billboard 200 making her the top-selling debut artist of the year.

Evancho would go on to score 7 consecutive number 1 release on the classical albums chart. She continues to make music and takes up occasional acting gigs.

Jackie Evancho has a younger sister named Rachel Evancho, however, it is her older transgender sister Juliet Evancho (pictured) who was born as a boy named Jacob Evancho that has gained more media attention. Juliet Evancho was born in 1998, making her two years older than Jackie. They grew up together alongside their other siblings Rachel and  Zachary who is now the only son of the Evancho family.

Juliet, when she was a boy (Jacob), struggled with gender identity and decided to become transgender at 17. In her interview with Teen Vogue, Jackie’s sister narrated how she gathered the family for a pool party and announced her transition from boy to girl. According to her words, their father Michael who had named her after his middle name took the news the hardest.

Before the big announcement, Juliet battled depression and had to see a therapist for two years. Jackie alongside other members of the Evancho family have become very supportive of Juliet. Following her performance at Trump’s January 2017 inauguration, she released a record containing three songs whose proceeds were donated to LGBT charities in support of her sister.

Jackie’s decision to perform at the inauguration despite Trump’s view on gay rights drew a lot of controversies. However, Jackie stated that her decision was completely apolitical. Juliet also saying she was singing for her country and not for Trump.

When Juliet didn’t attend the inauguration, many speculated it was as a way of protesting Trump’s views on gay rights, however, later clarified that she missed supporting her sister on the big day because she had to undergo a gender reassignment surgery. Juliet has advocated for the federal law to allow transgender people to use bathrooms designated for the gender that they identify with and has been supported by her father, Michael.
