Jevon Carter attended Proviso East High School in Schaumburg, Illinois. After his high school graduation, he enrolled at the University of West Virginia where he spent four years from 2014 to 2018. While in University, he played basketball and subsequently, he was selected in the 2018 NBA draft as 32nd overall by the Memphis Grizzlies.

Even though he was born in Maywood, Illinois, the Grizzlies point guard is well acquainted with his new home in Memphis. As a growing child, he was always traveling to Memphis during the summer period and on some weekends. Also, his uncle – Jemal Thompson, would usually take him to watch Grizzlies games anytime he was in town.

In an interview before the 2018 NBA draft, Jevon’s mother – Cynthia Johnson was asked to name the team she would like her son to go with, she said that she had just one team in mind and that was the Memphis Grizzlies.

According to Cynthia, she had always known that Jevon Carter would play in the NBA since he was five years old. She later said that the best part of the draft night was not that Jevon made it to the league but that he would be playing for her home team. She described the draft night as one of the greatest experiences of her life.
