the Philadelphia Eagles defensive player has always been in the headlines on issues and discussions that surround the biggest sports and sporting event in the US until he recently got his name trending for the wrong reason. A North Carolina man, Joshua Jeffords in November 2017 accused the NFL player of seducing and having a torrid affair with his wife, which ultimately resulted in ruining his once happy marriage.

Cox, however, denied ruining Jefford’s marriage, according to him, what he had with Catherine Cuesta Jeffords, wasn’t a result of seduction but of mutual consent between two adults. He added that Cuesta Jeffords never told him she was married. Here are the details of the story.

Who Is Joshua Jeffords?

The name Joshua Jeffords only began trending and known online after he filed a lawsuit against NFL player Fletcher Cox accusing him of seducing his wife Cuesta Jeffords into a relationship with him, thus, ruining their marriage.

There isn’t much about Jeffords, only that he is a former U.S marine, who is from North Carolina. His then-wife Catherine Virginia Cuesta is also a native of North Carolina, born in 1988.

The couple tied the knot in Charlotte, NC on  August 31, 2014, they had no child(ren) together but Josh has a daughter from a previous relationship.

His Wife’s Relationship With Fletcher Cox

In the lawsuit at the Mecklenburg County Civil Court dated on November 22, 2017, Joshua Jeffords sued for alienation of affection, claiming his wife of over three years violated the state’s law against “marital misconduct” by having an affair with the NFL player.

Jeffords claimed their marriage was going on smoothly until Cox came into the scene and ruined the whole thing. According to the suit, Fletcher and Cuesta met back in April during one of her business trips to Philadelphia and seeing each other and upon her return to North Carolina, she continued the affair through text messages.

Jeffords reportedly confronted his wife asking her to unfollow Cox on Instagram, rather than do that, Jeffords alleges she blocked him instead and moved over to the Philadelphia area, where Cox owns a home.

Philadelphia magazine got hold of some text messages which actually revealed that Cox and Jeffords’ wife were  sending X-rated messages to each other and even talked about having babies. In one of the text messages, Jeffords’ wife referred to Cox as “boo.” In another, Cox sent her a picture of his penis.

Joshua reportedly suffered substantial emotional distress, was checked into a mental-health facility and sought $50,000 in damages.

Fletcher Cox and his attorney kept quiet on the whole issue but when Cox finally spoke, he set the records straight. The Eagles’ player said his relationship with Jeffords’ wife wasn’t as a result of seduction but a result of mutual attraction which they both consented to.

Cox said Cuesta Jeffords never told him she was married. About the text messages,  the Pro Bowler did admit to having explicit text conversations with her including telling her, he would want to get her pregnant but denies sending her pics of his genitals.

In order to win Alienation Of Affection (A.O.A) case in North Carolina, the plaintiff must prove one of the following: that the malicious acts of a 3rd party resulted to the alienation of affection between the couple involved and malicious as the crux is accepted if there’s proof of sexual intercourse between the parties to the detriment of the plaintiff; there was a genuine love and affection between the party involved and his/her spouse and thirdly; the love and affection resulted alienated and destroyed.

Josh hasn’t really been able to prove any of these. Cox’s attorney has asked the Mecklenburg County Civil Court to dismiss the case because there had been no genuine love or affection between Catherine and Jeffords, the court was also asked to make Joshua Jeffords pay his lawyers for their services.

Jeffords have been accused by many as taking advantage of Cox’s status to try to exploit him but his attorney, Christopher Adkins, came to his defense, stating clearly that the NFL player’s social and financial status has nothing to do with why they sued him.

It hasn’t been confirmed yet whether or not the two are still dating if they are, they are probably still keeping it low at the moment. We just have to watch and see what time reveals in this matter.
