Steffan came into the world on August 24, 1978, in the U.S. Virgin Islands. When she was 10 years of age, she and her family relocated to Florida. Karrin’s life growing up is more or less a series of tragedies. Her mother was an alcoholic and her father was indifferent. She endured physical and emotional abuse, and this was compounded when she was raped at the age of 13.

When she was 16, she ran away from home and lived on the streets for about a month. To fend for herself at the time, young Karrine had to start working as an exotic dancer. After shuffling around New York and Arizona, she would eventually move to Los Angeles in 1999. At 17 years old, she started dating and moved in with a rapper known as Nathaniel Wilson, better known by his stage handle “Kool G Rap”. Her relationship with the emcee was a very bumpy ride for the dancer. This led to her leaving Los Angeles after she had to go to the hospital as a result of the rapper physically abusing her.

Karrine Steffans’s time with Kool G Rap had introduced her to some heavyweights in the industry. She began to learn the ropes of the vixen business and soon she made her debut on Jay-Z’s 1999 music video for the song Hey Papi. She went on to star in a slew of videos for big names like R.Kelly, Mystikal, and .

In 2004, Karrine made her movie debut when she appeared in A Man Apart alongside . Her pictures also graced the cover of Smooth Magazine’s “Hollywood swimsuit” issue in the same year.

In April 2006, Steffans was a guest on an episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show, in a segment that talked about the objectification of women. Here, the former dancer related her sexual abuse experience as a child and how this led to her allowing herself to be exploited by the industry in order to be able to cater for herself.

The next year she was on the cover of King magazine sporting a raunchy attire and holding a horse whip. She also did a spoken word intro and epilogue for the mixtape Freaky Flows, by DJ Rhude and Dawton Thomas.

On her writing career, Steffans has written more than six titles. Her first work came in 2005 as the first in a four-part book series. She released the next two in 2007 and 2009 respectively. They were titled The Vixen Diaries (2007), and The Vixen Manual: How to Find, Seduce & Keep the Man You Want (2009). These three books all made it into top ten positions on The New York Times Best Seller’s List. Her writing was praised by Essence Magazine and got her interview sessions which many journalists including Bill O’Reilly and Dony Deutsch.

The ex-dancer who has guest-written occasionally for KING Magazine launched her own publishing imprint in 2008. In 2010, she penned a contract with Fox Television Studios to make her 2007 book into a movie. The deal also required Steffan to write a scripted television series for production.
