Keegan-Michael Key was born on the 22nd of March, 1971 in Southfield, Michigan. Though born in Southfield, he later grew up in Detroit. He went on to attend the University of Detroit Mercy where he graduated from in 1993, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Theatre. He pursued Theater further and acquired a Master of Fine Arts degree in the course from Pennsylvania State University, where he graduated from in 1996.

Keegan-Michael Key officially got his career started in 1999 but didn’t gain any substantial attention until 2004 when he joined the sketch comedy show Mad TV as a cast member.
