Who is Les Miles?

He was born on November 10, 1953, in Elyria, Ohio to his parents; Bubba, his father and Martha Miles his mother. Les attended Elyria High School and was notable in different sports including wrestling, baseball and of course football at the time. While in high school Miles received all-state honors as a lineman in football which may have been a great motivating factor for him.

After his high school, he proceeded to the University of Michigan and soon became a two-year letterman. This was under coach Bo Schembechler who headed the school team between 1974 and 1975. Miles served as an assistant coach in Michigan for two years under Bo Schembechler before proceeding to coach at the University of Colorado. He went back to Michigan in 1987 as an offensive line coach and held the position even after the retirement of Schembechler in 1990 and after Coach Gary Moeller was made the new head coach. He also held his second job as a coaching assistant at Michigan. But Miles left Michigan in 1955 after he had issues with the management. He later became an offensive coordinator at Oklahoma State.

He was made the head coach at Oklahoma State in 2001. Les achieved several winning records with the team and earned himself lots of recognition. His second season at Oklahoma was remarkable; the talented coach led his team to a 38-28 victory over the Sooners and earned the Big 12 Conference Coach of the Year title by Associated Press in 2002. Miles became the 32nd head coach for the Louisana State University (LSU) football team in January 2005 after he replaced Nick Saban who left to coach the Miami Dolphins. He made several winning records with LSU. His wins over #15 Arizona State on September 10, #11 Florida on October 15, #16 Auburn on October 22, and #4 Alabama on November 12 were some of his remarkable records.

He led LSU to the number one spot two times in the 2007 regular season and recorded victories over six of his counterparts in the game. When the regular season came to an end, Miles led his team to the SEC Championship game and won with a 21-14 victory over Tennessee. At the BCS National Championship Game, Miles’ LSU won Ohio State with 38-24 and the renowned coach got his first national championship. The victory also meant a third overall national championship for LSU. Miles’ remarkable feat not only drew national attention but also projected him as the possible head coach candidate from teams like Michigan and Kansas. His time with LSU reportedly came to an end in September 2016 following reports of a dismissal by the team management.
