College football players in their senior year get really excited towards the start of the NFL Draft. The excitement gets way higher when they get the much-anticipated call from the owner of a team. On April 27, 2017, Myles Garrett’s joy knew no bounds as he was selected to join the National Football League with the first overall pick of the year’s draft. This marked the beginning of his journey to fulfilling his aim of retiring as the greatest player of all time in the league.

Beyond offering a concise account of his biography, the following are the things you should know about the Cleveland Browns’ defensive end.

Who Is Myles Garrett?

The American football player was born as Myles Lorenz Garrett on 29th December 1995 to Audrey Garrett and Lawrence Garrett – his mother and father. He has two older siblings named Brea Garrett (sister) and Sean Williams (half-brother).

Sean is a professional basketball player who began his career in Boston College and moved on after being picked by the New Jersey Nets in the NBA Draft of 2007. Also, Brea is an astounding track events sportswoman; she is the 2014 NCAA champion for the category of track and field weight throw.

The siblings obviously got the sportsmanship traits from their parents. As a college student, Audrey ran track while Lawrence is reported to have always been a sportsperson. Audrey obtained a degree in communications from the Hampton University in Virginia where she had a scholarship. She is a service coordinator in the Arlington Texas’ social services department. From what we learned, she had her first son, Sean Williams five years before her relationship and eventual marriage to Lawrence.

Thing You Need To Know About The Defensive End

The Beginning of His Career

As a student of Martin High School, Myles was involved in track events, basketball, and football. He made a good record in football, such that led rivals.com to name him as a five-star recruit and as the number 2 overall in his graduating class.

Myles also excelled in the shot put and discus throw events. In October 2013, he accepted to play football with the Texas A&M University and in just six games; he broke the existing sack record for freshmen of 5.5. By his ninth game, he had outplayed the previous SEC sack record (8) of a freshman. He improved his performance as a sophomore and won the Bill Willis award for being the top defensive lineman.

As a junior, he sustained a sprain in his high ankle which limited his play time. Despite missing some matches due to this injury, Garrett still emerged as a Unanimous Consensus All-American. Various outlets like Football Writers Association of America, the American Football Coaches Association, and the Associated Press all named him in their first-team list.

NFL Career and Contract

When he made the decision to enter the NFL Draft in 2017, he was aptly declared as the number one overall pick by most football analysts and scouts. It, therefore, came as no surprise when the Cleveland Browns drafted him in the first round, he was the 1st overall pick.

Myles Garrett went on to sign a four-year $30.41 million contract with the team. While the amount is fully guaranteed, the deal came with a signing bonus of $20.25 million.

He, however, sustained another high ankle sprain while practicing on the 7th of September 2017 and was forced to miss the first four matches of the season. His first game was on the 8th of the following month (October). The defensive end sadly had a concussion after just three games and was again forced to miss another game due to concussion protocol. Interestingly, even as Myles Garrett only played 10 out of the scheduled 16 games during his rookie season, he was able to finish first in sacks on his team. This was another dream come true for the handsome American football player.

Height and Body Measurements

One thing that amazed several persons during the 2017 Draft was Myles’ size, he weighed over 270 lb and was 6 feet 4 inches tall. Yet, he could move so fast as to make a 40-yard dash in 4.64 seconds, a spectacular feat for a defensive end.

As this star is one of NFL’s youngest players, it is anticipated that he will get to pull down several walls in the league.
