She was born on December 16, 1988, in LeChee, Arizona. As a child, Montano was pretty strong although she did not exhibit so much interest in martial arts. She attended Chinle High School where she graduated in 2006 before proceeding to ASU college, Mesa. Montano did not finish in the school, she left the institution for Dine College in Tasaile. After spending little time there, she left again and moved to Fort Lewis College in Colorado.
Gradually developing an interest in martial arts, Nicco enrolled into Durango Martial Arts Academy in Colorado. There she exceeded expectations as she unleashed her hidden fighting and combat skills. She didn’t stop there, Montano continued with martial arts until she discovered her interest in boxing. She dabbled in boxing and was really good at it. Montano was indeed destined to be a fighter; while in the sports of boxing, she also tilted her attention towards Japanese jiu-jitsu.
Seeing that she was good at all combat oriented sports, she eventually majored as a mixed martial arts fighter. Starting her career in mixed martial arts in 2013, Nicco began as an amateur and fought through 5-0 wins against her opponents. Nicco continued gaining popularity as an amateur until 2015 when she stepped into professional martial arts. She made her debut in November 2015 when she competed with notable fighters in the combat sports.
The mixed martial artist fought for the King of The Cage title and bagged the KOTC’s Women’s Flyweight Championship. After recording a 3-2 win she started fighting on The Ultimate Fighter platform where she battled with other mixed martial artists in 2017. Montano fought at ‘The Ultimate Fighter; New World Champion’ for the first time in August 2017. She won her fight against Lauren Murphy after two rounds of combat, she then moved on to face off with Montana Stewart in the quarterfinals and also won. Nicco Montano fought in the semifinals against Barb Honchak a former Invicta FC Flyweight Champion and won the bout after three rounds.
At the Ultimate Fighting Championship in December 2017, Montano faced Roxanne Modafferi who replaced Sijara Eubanks who left the competition due to a kidney failure. Montano came out victorious and clinched the UFC women’s Flyweight Championship title, as well as the Fight of the Night bonus.
