Allie Grant Biography

Allie Grant was born on Valentine’s day of 1994, in Tupelo, Mississippi. She is the daughter of Bob and Angie Grant. From when she was very little, Grant knew that she wanted to become an entertainer and her parents supported her all the way.

At the age of 3, she had already gone to the Model and Talent Expo in Dallas, Texas. Allie has recalled that as a kid growing up in a family with very funny people, she picked up the habit of mimicking the things she watched and tried to pick up various accents as a result.

In high school, Grant participated in various school plays. However, her love for performance and busy acting schedule never affected her academics as Allie went on to become the valedictorian of her 2011 high school graduating class.

Grant began her career officially in 2005, right before turning 11 years old. Her early gigs were appearances in two of Disney’s biggest shows at the time –  The Suite Life of Zack & Cody and That’s So Raven. In the former, she appeared in 4 episodes playing the character Agnes who had a crush on both Zack and Cody. Her favourite and the most memorable episode of the show, she has said is the one that involved a play scene where they had to fight.

Stil in 2005, Allie got the role of Isabelle Hodes in Weeds. Her role as Isabelle Hodes was originally intended to be a recurring one but after the first and second seasons, Grant’s impeccable portrayal of the lesbian daughter of Celia and Dean Hodes saw the role being upgraded to a major for the 3rd, 4th and 5th season in 2009. Grant appeared in a total of 8 episodes. The dark comedy-drama would go on to last for 8 seasons, ending in 2012.

As part of the cast of the show, Grant received a Screen Actor’s Guild (SAG) nomination twice in 2007 and 2009 for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.

After her Weeds gig came to an end, Grant made her film debut in the comedy film Fanboys. Her role as the curly-haired Kimmy was only a small one. Fanboys starred notable names like Jay Baruchel, Dan Fogler, and Kristen Bell. Veteran actor William Shatner made a cameo appearance in the film. The film was a commercial flop, making a mere $960,000 against a budget of almost $4 million.

Also in 2009, Grant made her stage debut in How I Learned to Drive, at The Chandler Theater Studio, North Hollywood. Her subsequent gigs would include the 2010 film The Runaways, as well as a guest role as Julie in Private Practice. Grant then enrolled in a Summer Program at the prestigious Harvard University.

Her next big gig was the main role of Lisa Shay in Suburgatory, an ABC sitcom that would go on to air for 3 seasons and 57 episode before getting cancelled. Out of that lot, Grant’s character appeared in 52 episodes. In 2012 she made out time to play the role of Remy in the comedy-drama film Struck by Lightning which also starred  Chris Colfer. Like her debut film, Struck by Lightning was also a box office flop.

Since then, Grant seemed to have turned her focus towards the small screen. She had guest appearances in Red Band Society (2014 episode “Know Thyself”) and Grey’s Anatomy’s 2015 episode “How to Save a Life.” Grant had a recurring role in The Goldbergs as Evelyn Silver for 9 episodes from 2015 – 2016.

She was given the role of Melinda in the comedy web television series All Night which premiered on Hulu in May 2018.
