Nicolas Batum is a French professional National Basketball Association player (NBA) player who plays for the Charlotte Hornets. He was born on December 14, 1988, in Lisieux, France. He started his basketball career by playing as a center while growing up in Normandy, France.
His father, Richard Batum, who he shared with a younger sister Pauline, also played professional basketball in France. Sadly, Richard Batum passed away during the course of a game in 1991.
Nicholas was a member of the junior national team of France that emerged winners of the FIBA Europe Under 16 Championship in 2004. Two years later, he became MVP of the FIBA Under 18 Championship when the tournament was won by the French national team.
He was regarded as one of the most outstanding young players in Europe. Upon entering the NBA Draft of 2008, DraftExpress.com ranked him seventeenth best of the international players born in the year 1988. The 2017-2018 season marked a down year for Nicolas Batum. This has been attributed chiefly to injuries sustained during the season. It began with an Ulnar Collateral Ligament (UCL) tear in his left elbow that was sustained in the preseason. He later said in an interview that the injury bothered him through his first 40 or 50 games.
Soreness in his left achilles also affected his season performance. For the first time in nine years, he did not play for the French National team due to his bad physical shape. He had not missed a Summer Olympic with the team eight years prior to that. After an MRI examination in March 2018, he was diagnosed with chronic tendinitis in his left achilles.
This was followed by a few missed games and a number of 20 minute game times for him. Some of Batum’s 2017-2018 season averages are 15.1 points, 5.9 assists, and 6.2 rebounds.
