Nicolas Batum is a French professional National Basketball Association player (NBA) player who plays for the Charlotte Hornets. He was born on December 14, 1988, in Lisieux, France. He started his basketball career by playing as a center while growing up in Normandy, France.

His father, Richard Batum, who he shared with a younger sister Pauline, also played professional basketball in France. Sadly, Richard Batum passed away during the course of a game in 1991.
Nicholas was a member of the junior national team of France that emerged winners of the FIBA Europe Under 16 Championship in 2004. Two years later, he became MVP of the FIBA Under 18 Championship when the tournament was won by the French national team.

He was regarded as one of the most outstanding young players in Europe.
