Norman Kali was born in Hawaii and was raised there too. He dropped out of school at the age of 16 then worked odd jobs around Hawaii before moving to Los Angeles at the age of 18. He went ahead to pursue a career behind the camera in Hollywood which was successful for him and he worked as production assistant on the movie, 50 First Dates, Lost, etc. As an assistant director, he has worked on Undercovers and The Prince of Motor City.

Norman is the outdoor type of guy and has interests in rock climbing and water surfing. He credited these two activities, saying it’s what keeps him in shape. He has previously dated house actress, Lisa Edelstein which lasted for 6 months. In an interview after they had broken up, she publicly said that he was a great guy to be with but that they were not just fit for each other. He met Evangeline Lilly while working on the set of the popular television series, Lost. She was the lead actress and the couple formed a close relationship.

Norman and Lilly officially started dating in May 2010. She relocated to Hawaii to be closer to the video shoots of Lost and to live with Norman in his homeland.

Although the couple is very careful not to give out information concerning their child, an unnamed source revealed it to the media that they had a son and named him Kahekili which means ‘thunder’ in Hawaiian. Lilly also revealed that he was given that name because on the day she gave birth to him, a great thunder struck.

In November 2015, the couple welcomed their second child. The only detail that has been revealed is that the baby is a girl. They have both stated that they do not believe in marriage but may consider it in the future for health or tax purposes.
