Patrick Wayne would have still been considerably famous if he had decided to only live as the son of the famous actor and Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient, . However, he decided instead to take more than the fame and good looks from his father by also becoming an actor and then a game show host.

In a career that sustained from the early 1950s to the late 1970s, Wayne has appeared in more than half a century films and TV shows. He has also appeared in documentaries.

Who is Patrick Wayne and How Old is He?

On July 15, 1939, the actor was born Patrick John Morrison to the legendary actor, John Wayne and his wife Josephine Saenz as their second son. Patrick would later change his name and adopt the stage name of his father Wayne instead of Morrison.

After he was through with high school, Wayne was off to Loyola Marymount University, from where he graduated. Even though his acting career had already started, he still enlisted in the Coast Guard in 1961.

Growing up with an actor father, he got the chance to make his debut as an actor even before he was a teenager. He appeared in Rio Grande alongside his father at the age of 11 in 1950. In the years that followed, he would rely on his father and appear in many more films with him.

In 1952, he was in The Quiet Man, followed by The Sun Shines Bright (1953), The Long Grey Line (1955), Mister Roberts (1955), and The Conqueror (1956). In the 1960s, Patrick also got many film roles in The Comancheros (1961), Cheyenne Autumn (1964), An Eye for an Eye (1966), and The Green Berets (1968).

All through those earlier times, he had always been in the shadows of his father whom he was really close to. He got to break off from the shadows in the 1970s and make a name for himself as an actor.

He acted in many more movies such as The Gatling Gun (1971), Beyond Atlantis (1973), Mustang Country (1976), The People That Time Forgot (1977), Rustlers’ Rhapsody (1985), and Deep Cover (1997) which was his last movie.

Also a TV actor, Patrick Wayne started in 1955 with Screen Directors Playhouse and appeared in a good number before calling it quits in 1997 with an appearance in an episode of Silk Stalkings. From 1990 to 1991, he was the host of the American television game show Tic Tac Dough.

Even though he has achieved a lot, what would have taken him to legendary status was the role he got to play Superman in the 1978 Superman film. Unfortunately, that was the time his father was suffering from cancer and so he rejected the offer which made into a household name.

Family Life

Patrick Wayne grew up in a closely knit family but his parents later got divorced when he was still a kid in 1945. His father would marry two more times in his lifetime; in 1946 to the Mexican actress, Esperanza Baur whom he would divorce in 1954 and then Peruvian actress, Pilar Pallete from whom he was separated in 1973. From all the marriages of his father, the actor had a total of six siblings.

As regards his own family life, Partick was married twice. His first marriage was to Peggy Hunt. It lasted from 1965 to 1978. Patrick was 25 when he got married while Peggy was 23. He would not marry again until 1999 when he walked down the aisle with Misha Anderson. The marriage again would not last a lifetime, it came to an end in 2015. He has 4 children from his marriages including Melanie Wayne, Michael Wayne, and Anthony Wayne.

Since the late 1990s, Patrick Wayne has practically disappeared as an actor even though his works have found a way to always keep him around. Already in his ’80s, the actor is very much alive and in good health. Even though he has not appeared in any film for a very long time since he retired, he has still been involved in different things.

He became the chairman of the John Wayne Cancer Institute in 2003 and then in 2015, it was announced that he was off to Spain, the country of his grandparents to receive the “Almeria Tierra de Cine” which was in recognition of all his contribution to the cinema with his long career therein. He now lives in Arizona.
