She was born in Dickson County, Tennessee, the United States, sometime in 1986 to her father, Venk Mani who is a doctor and Usha, her mother. Growing up, she wanted to do a bit of everything; dance, soccer, basketball, and even joined the student council. She reasoned that being the only Indian girl in the vicinity, she would find out where she fits in and that ultimately worked out for her.
Mani graduated in 2004 from Dickson County High School where the arts and sports programs helped prep her for the future she envisions, one where she would make people happy and be filled with joy and fulfilment in turn. Then, she followed it up with a 2008 graduation from Boston’s Emerson College with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in writing, literature, and publishing.

Mani doubles as a comedian and dancer
While in college, she unveiled a part of her that would continue for a long time. She was involved in comedy and after her graduation, she moved to New York where she studied improv comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade for three years. Afterwards, she took up her dancing side.
Sunita Mani clogged at the Grand Old Hatchery in Downtown Dickson and was also in various competitions as part of the Miss Amy Dance studio. Then, she doubled as a dancer and choreographer at the Cocoon Central Dance Team which she co-founded with her friends, Tallie Medel and Eleanore Pienta.

She appeared in a 2016 episode of the sitcom Broad City and also guest appeared in the fantasy-comedy series, The Good Place. She also had two film credits that year; Little Sister and Don’t Think Twice. In 2017, she set our screens glowing with her performance in the 2017 Netflix series GLOW along with a number of other diverse and highly talented women including as a Russian fighting pro Ruth Wilder and the American heroine Debbie Eagen () as they strive to be a part of an emerging reality show, Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling otherwise known as GLOW.
Her character, Arthie Premkumar in the ’80s set series is an Indian-American pre-med student who needs to make money and auditions for the reality show. She morphed into a keffiyeh-wearing, gun-slinging wrestler known as “Beirut the Mad Bomber.”
She landed other impressive roles in 2017 including as Fatima Khorasani in the web series No Activity and Pia in Search Party. 2018 saw her featured in the film Madeline’s Madeline as Assistant Max and in the musical reality competition TV series Drop the Mic.
