Winifer Fernandez is talented, skilled and absolutely stunning. She is easily considered one of the most beautiful volleyball players in her country. The talented sportswoman is slick, smart, fast and consistent in volleyball. She has received numerous awards and recognition as a result.

Bio & Age – Who is Winifer Fernandez?

Winifer Maria Pèrez was born on the 6th of January 1995, in the Santiago province of the Dominican Republic. Her hometown – Cienfuegos, Santiago de los Caballeros – is where she began her journey in volleyball at age of ten, with her coach Miguel Duran.

Winifer is the proof that hard work and dedication can get you very far in life.

Her Volleyball Career

At fifteen, Winifer became stronger and more experienced with every volleyball game she played and earned herself several awards including the Best Digger, Best Receiver, and Best Libero awards in the 2010 NORCECA youth championship, even though her team finished in fourth place.

Winifer Fernandez won the bronze medal and best libero award in the 2011 Girl’s Youth Pan-American Cup. In the same year, she still won the Best Digger, Best Receiver and Best Libero awards which placed the volleyball star in the spotlight

It’s safe to say that without Winifer Fernandez, the Santiago team wouldn’t have the 2012 Northern Region Cup gold medal. She starred in the game topping the spikers with 15 points. Fernández shared the libero position with Ana Binet for the first time in the 2012 FIVB World Grand Prix, debuting with her senior national team. This steamed mixed feelings amongst her fans.

At the junior North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) championship in 2012, Winifer Fernandez led her under 20 national team to grab the gold medal and therefore qualifying them for the 2013 Junior World Championship. At the end of the game, she took home the Most Valuable Player Award, which was well deserved and other awards such as Best Digger, Best Receiver, and Best Libero. Again? Yep, again!

Winifer later led her team to win the gold medal at 2012 under 23 Pan-American Cup. Early in 2013, she won the MVP for the second time at the Baja California International Cup held in Mexico.

Miss Fernandez was awarded the 2012 volleyball player of the year by the Santo Domingo Guild of sports writers alongside fellow libero player Brenda Castillo. She also won the silver medal at the 2013 Pan-American cup which was held in Cuba with her junior team.

That’s not all, the athlete won the 7th Cabarete Beach volleyball tournament, together with Brayelin Martinez and Larysmer Martinez. In June, she ranked eight with her national junior team at the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) under 20 world championship.

Winifer Fernandez was chosen as the volleyball player of the year by the Santiago province Guild of sports writers in early 2014. She was chosen again to play with her national team in 2016, they won the gold in the world Grand Prix Group 2. Winifer captured the gold medal again during the Pan-American cup played in her Home. She and her team hit a 5-0 in the pool play smashing Cuba 3-0 in the semifinals.

Later, she participated in the 2017 FIVB under 23 world championship, up against Italy’s Savino Del Bene Scandicci. Fernández played with the ‘Cienfuegos’ in the XLIII inter-municipal volleyball tournament winning the championship and best Libero award. She won the under 23 tournament gold Medal played in the 2017 Bolivarian games as well.

Social Media Presence

In 2016, Winifer Fernandez became the star of a viral video and several viral photos which were circulated without her permission. Although the video and photos garnered the volleyball star a lot of attention, she has admitted to not liking the context in which they were presented.

More than just the pictures, people began creating fake social media accounts, impersonating the sportswoman and trying to capitalize on her fame. It’s unfortunate that the creator of these fake accounts usually forget that their actions are hurting people.

Beyond social media though, Winifer Fernandez has also gained recognition through traditional media as well. In September 2017, the Salvadorian newspaper, El Mundo, named Winifer Fernandez as number 7 among the 10 most beautiful and coveted athletes in the world. She expressed gratitude and tagged it as a compliment for the Dominican women.
