With one of his brothers in jail for murder and another one shot to death when Thug was in elementary school, it’s really safe to say that American rapper Young Thug had a rough beginning in life.

He’s no stranger to the juvenile detention centre as he and his 11 siblings have all had an issue with the law. Nevertheless, his very rocky beginning didn’t deter him from going after his dreams and look where he is now. Since breaking out into the music world in 2013, Young Thug has collaborated with a slew of celebrity rappers including , , Rich Homie, Birdman, T.I. and Gucci Mane. In addition to the big guns in the industry, the young rapper has also received much support from his fans.

While he swung to prominent fame in 2013, Thug’s first popularity started to grow in 2011 when he started collaborating with the aforementioned artists.

Young Thug Wiki

Born Jeffery Lamar Williams on August 16, 1991, Young Thug is an American rapper, singer, songwriter and record producer. The rapper who was born in Atlanta had one of those beginnings that leave most people with a shattered life. He was born the tenth among eleven children in Sylvan Hills and grew up living in the Jonesboro South projects which was later demolished. Life was so rough that alongside his many siblings, Thug got his fair share of run-ins with the law. But, he was able to make something good out of it all.

Though he doesn’t plan to be a rapper for long, his unconventional vocal style and fashion sense have garnered him so much attention, especially after his collaborations with renowned rappers like Rich Homie Quan, Birdman, Cash Out, Shawty Lo and Gucci Mane. His music is mostly devoid of the traditional rap lyricism and sometimes unintelligible meaning.

Right before he tasted stardom, Young Thug initially released a series of independent mixtapes starting from 2011 with I Came From Nothing. He later signed with 1017 Brick Squad Records early 2013, paving the way for the limelight to find him. Shortly after the record deal, he released his debut mixtape 1017 Thug to critical acclaim. This comes after the release of the first three instalments of his mixtape series I Came from Nothing throughout 2011 and 2012. For what it’s worth, listening to the instalments caught Mane’s attention.

1017 Thug made waves in the industry with a lot of milestones and praises from music critics. Additionally, it was ranked by Pitchfork as one of the best albums of the first half of the 2010s decade, at number 96. His success was not ready to dwindle as in 2014, Young recorded more milestones in his career. He recorded several songs under 1017 Brick Squad with Kayne West, Rich Homie and Chief Keef and even made it to the cover of ‘The Fader’. In March 2014, he announced the release of his debut album which would be titled Carter 6 as a proof of his admiration for Lil Wayne’s hit album Tha Carter. Notwithstanding, Wayne seemingly didn’t like the tribute and minced no words in letting fans know about his feelings. Thus, claiming he’s been threatened with lawsuits, Young announced that he was changing the title to “Barter 6.”

A couple of hit tracks and mixtapes later, Young is arguably one of hip-hop’s A-listers. He announced that he will be starting his own record label imprint called YSL records. Apparently, he got tired of all the drama that came with signing with record labels.

Milestones

He has several hit mixtapes with “Barter 6” taking centre stage. Perhaps as a result of his dispute with Lil Wayne at the time, the album was ranked number 22 on U.S. Billboard 200. However, the success of the mixtape can also be because of his acclaimed unconventional rapping style.

His most famous single Picacho made it to the top 100 tracks in both Rolling Stone and Pitchfork.

According to the December 4, 2014, issue of Rolling Stone, Young Thug is the “most exciting new voice of hip-hop” and “hip-hop’s new crown prince.”

He was among the ‘25 New Rappers to Watch Out For’ in the bi-monthly fashion magazine – Complex.

Young Thug has bagged several nominations including the BET hip-hop Awards in the category of Who Blew Up, Best Hip-Hop Style and Best Club Banger as well as the BET Awards in Coca-Cola Viewers Choice Award in 2014 and 2015 respectively.

Height, Teeth

The Atlanta-born rapper stands tall at 1.91 m. While he’s usually seen wearing dental grills, whenever Young takes them off, we are always amazed at his nice set of white teeth, neatly arranged.

Young Thug’s Daughter, Fiancé, Married, Wife

At just 26, Young Thug already has six children – three girls and three boys by four women. He supposedly had his first child when he was around 17 or 14. Nevertheless, he’s yet to walk down the aisle with any woman though he has put a ring on one. Young got engaged to Jerrika Karlae in April 2015. Karlae runs a swimsuit line while her mother manages rapper Young Dolph. And just in case you are wondering when the couple will tie the knot, it may be never because they later broke up in 2017.

Meanwhile one of Young’s daughters has been setting the internet ablaze with her rapping skills. A video of her dancing and spitting a freestyle better than most grownup rappers went viral in 2016 and caused quite a stir. Watch her

Is Young Thug Gay?

While his sexual orientation is widely known as straight, the rapper seems to embrace controversy at any slightest opportunity. Just after getting engaged to Karlae, Young awkwardly declared that he was homosexual. Seemingly, that claim holds no water as he has not been seen dating a man ever since.

Again, Young has this weird love for women’s clothes and doesn’t blink before wearing them to public events or in his music videos. From tank tops to skirts, the rapper rocks them all. Hence, the speculation that he might really be gay.
