Every lover of the game of baseball knows how important pitchers are in the game; to a very large extent, they determine whether a team wins or losses. So one major quality looked out for when selecting a pitcher is a strong arm, anyone with a feeble arm who cannot accurately throw a ball and strikes has no business being a pitcher and obviously, the Milwaukee Brewers of the Major League Baseball (MLB) made no mistake when they selected Zach Davies to play this important role in the team

Although Davies currently pitches for the Milwaukee Brewers, he began his MLB career in the minor league with the Baltimore Orioles who drafted him at the 2011 MLB draft. After appearing at the 2015 All-Star Futures Game, he was traded to the Brewers with whom he made his MLB debut in 2015.

Bio, Age

Zachary Ryan Davies was born in Puyallup, Washington on the 7th of February 1993. There isn’t any detailed information about his parents, family background, siblings and what his growing up days was like, however, Davies did mention once in an interview that his family really had a hard time talking to each other because they don’t have many things in common besides sports. He also mentioned having a step-father and step-siblings.

He attended Mesquite High School, Gilbert, Arizona where he began playing baseball with the school team first as a middle infielder before switching over to pitching in his junior year. He committed to Arizona State University for a $575,000 signing bonus but forwent the commitment in 2011 after the Baltimore Orioles selected him in the 26th round of the  MLB Draft.

He began his professional start in the Class A South Atlantic League with the Delmarva Shorebirds. During his first season (2012) with them, he pitched to a 3.86 ERA. In 2013 he played for the Frederick Keys of the Class A-Advanced Carolina League recording a 3.69 ERA. The next season (2014) Davies pitched for the Bowie Baysox of the Class AA Eastern League a 3.35 ERA. After the 2014 regular season, he represented the Orioles in the Arizona Fall League.

Zach Davies began the 2015 season with the Norfolk Tides of the Class AAA International League. He played nineteen games with the team and pitched 2.84 ERA. In that same year, he was chosen to represent the Orioles at the All-Star Futures Game. In July of the same year, Davies was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for Gerardo Parra.

After the trade, he was first assigned to the Colorado Springs Sky Sox of the Class AAA Pacific Coast League. By September, the Brewers promoted him to the major league and he made his MLB debut that same month. Zach Davies is currently working on a 4 seam fastball which typically maxes out at around 94–95. During the 2015/2016 season, he had a slider which was about 91 mph.

Davies has a stock of pitching skills which include a curveball, changeup, and a 2-seam fastball. His changeup is said to be his best pitch as it is deceptively thrown and lands with a very sharp downward break as it reaches the batter. His fastball typically reaches around 91–94 MPH and his pinpoint control is also worthy of note because experts believe it would become more consistent with continuous practice.

Zach Davies’ Wife

The MLB pitcher has been married to Megan Davies since December 2016. The couple dated for a long time before they finally decided to tie the knot in Arizona, during the offseason. The reception was held at a private restaurant El Chorro, located in Paradise Valley, AZ.

Davies had popped the question on a family trip to Seattle during Thanksgiving. It was a very emotional moment for the couple, especially for Zach who said asking her to be his girlfriend was a smart move but asking her to marry him was even better.

The couple has two adopted dogs named Zooey and Penelope who they wanted to incorporate into the wedding, it proved to be too difficult. The couple currently has no kids together. For now, they are happy with their pets.
