While you might not immediately recognize the name Zach McGowan, the actor has been involved in the entertainment industry for over a decade. The handsome actor has made several appearances in numerous television series and movies, but his breakthrough role came on the set of the comedy-drama television series Shameless where he portrayed the character – Jody. As a voice artist, he has lent his voice to many advertisements, video games as well as several anime projects in the past.

Biography (Age, Ethnicity)

Zachary Brendan McGowan was born on the 5^th of May, 1980 in New York City. The American actor is of diverse ethnicity with his mother, Brenda McGowan, being of Russian Jewish descent and while his father, Vincent McGowan, has his ancestry rooted in Ireland. His mother worked as a staff of the United States Airlines, which made the McGowan family to be constantly on the move. Zach grew up with his two older brothers Matt and Doug McGowan.

He attended Ethical Culture Fieldston School from his Kindergarten years up until his final year in high school. During his years in high school, Zach functioned as the Captain of his school’s football team as well as the ice hockey team. He was also active as part of the theatre and drama society of the school. He later proceeded to Carlton college for further studies.

Zach McGowan found himself on the New York City stage in 2003 where he took part in several Broadway productions and later relocated to Los Angeles to pursue a career in television and movies.

Acting Career

Zach McGowan became part of the cast of the Showtime dramedy, Shameless in the middle of 2011. He portrayed Jody Silverman, a tattoo artist and recovering sex addict. His character was upgraded from a recurring character to a regular on the 3^rd season of the show.

In 2013, he played the role of Shkelgim, a mysterious Romani in the movie Dracula Untold, a Universal Pictures feature film. In 2104, he joined the cast of Black Sails, a Starz channel adventure television series, where he played a fictional version of Charles Vane – a known pirate during the 18^th century. Even though the role was meant for an actor of English origin, Zach improvised an English accent during his audition, which helped him land the part. His performance greatly impressed casting directors when it was later revealed that Zach was actually faking the English accent.

He then joined the cast of the CW science fiction television series, The 100 where he played King Roan of the Ice Nation. Zach also played the villain ‘The Superior’ on the ABC television series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Currently, Zach is part of the television series, LA’s Finest which is based on the Bad Boys movie franchise.

From all indications, the actor has appeared mostly on television shows with a limited but growing presence in films. Recently, he appeared in Death Race: Beyond Anarchy and Scorpion King: Book of Souls where he played the titular role.

Wife

It is glaringly obvious that the entertainer is a one-woman man. On the 27^th of September 2008, he got married to Emily Johnson whom he met during his years at a private liberal arts school located in Northfield Minnesota. Their wedding took place in the Santa Barbara Mountains. The couple has had over a decade of marital bliss and are not planning on parting ways ever.

They have two beautiful daughters who are often seen photographed with them on social media. So far, no news of any separation or impending divorce has plagued their union.
