Born in 1984 and fondly known as Pakru, Ajay Kumar is a popular comedy actor and film director from India, with dozens of acting credits to his name. Aside from his professional accomplishments, he has gained widespread popularity for being one of the shortest men in the world. His starring role in the movie Albutha Dweep, earned him a spot in the Guinness World Records as the shortest actor to appear in a feature-length film. Ajay’s small stature is a result of the condition called dwarfism. However, he has not let his height stop him from living a full life and actively pursuing his dreams. Ajay is a happy family man with a wife and daughter.

9. He Pingping (2 Feet 5 Inches)

At some point, He Pingping held the record for being the world’s shortest mobile man. He was born in the Inner Mongolia region of China on the 13th of July 1988. His condition actually started from birth. When he was born, he was so small that he could fit comfortably in his parents’ palms, and his growth continued at an alarmingly slow pace. Upon medical examination, it was discovered that Pingping suffered from osteogenesis imperfecta, a condition that prevents the body and bones from growing normally.

His unusual height precluded him from being able to hold down a normal job, so he made his living from public and media appearances. Pingping had two older sisters of normal height, and they took really good care of him in conjunction with their parents. While in Rome for the filming of Lo show dei record, in March 2010, Pingping began experiencing terrible pains in his chest. He was rushed to a hospital where he died a few days later from a heart complication, aged 21.

8. Nelson de la Rosa (2 Feet 4 Inches)

Standing at 2 feet 4 inches in height, Nelson de la Rosa was confirmed as one of the shortest men in the world. The Dominican actor made a name for himself in the local and international film and television industries, featuring in productions like Ratman, Super Sabado Sensacional, and The Island of Dr. Moreau, amongst others. Nelson was approached with offers from several media networks and TV shows interested in making a documentary about his life, but none of those plans were ever finalized.

No official diagnosis was made as to the cause of Nelson’s unique height; however, it is believed that he may have been a carrier of the microcephalic osteodysplastic primordial dwarfism type II gene. Nelson was married to a woman named Jennifer De Lionel and they had a son together. Unfortunately, he passed away at the age of 38, on the 22nd of October 2006.

7. Edward Nino Hernandez (2 Feet 3 ½ Inches)

Edward Nino Hernandez once held the title of the shortest man in the world, but he only held the record for a short time before it passed on to someone else. When Edward was born in 1986, he was only 15 inches long, and he continued growing slowly until the age of two when he stopped growing completely. In addition to his growth abnormality, the Colombian also suffered from cataracts that left him unable to see properly and write legibly, so he was forced to repeat some classes over and over until he permanently withdrew at the age of 13. Edward spends some of his time working as a dancer and playing games. The cause of his diminished height is yet to be discovered.

6. Lin Yü-chih (2 Feet 2.6 Inches)

Next on our list of shortest men in the world is Khagendra Thapa Magar, who claimed the title of world’s shortest man from Edward Nino Hernandez after he celebrated his 18th birthday on October 14, 2010. He hails from the Baglung district of Nepal, where he is fondly referred to as “little Buddha” by the members of the community. At the time of his birth, Khagendra weighed only 600 grams, and today his body weight is around 6.5 kilograms.

His short height is a result of a genetic condition, so he is a primordial dwarf, meaning he has always had a small size even before he was born. Thanks to his condition, he’s fated to be perpetually behind his mates in weight and height. Khagendra suffers from learning difficulties because his condition has left him with not just the body, but also the mind of a three-year-old. Since he was discovered, he has appeared in a number of documentaries including Mark Dolan’s The World’s Smallest Man and Me.

4. Junrey Balawing (1 Foot 11.6 Inches)

This Filipino native stopped growing after his first birthday. He was born on June 12, 1993, and for years, he has been recognized as one of the shortest men in the world. He was next in line for the world record, which passed to him from Khagendra Thapa following his 18th birthday. Junrey is the son of a blacksmith and his family is quite poor.

He currently retains the title of the shortest living man, since Chandra Bahadur Dangi, the man who previously held it died in September 2015. Junrey measures only 1 foot 11.6 inches in height and he has weak knees which makes it difficult for him to walk or stand up straight without help. However, he loves helping his family perform little tasks around the home like feeding the chickens.

3. Gul Mohammed (1 Foot 10.5 Inches)

New Delhi’s Gul Mohammed lived from February 1957 to October 1997. As far as history and record-keeping are concerned, he held the distinction of being the shortest adult person alive almost throughout his life. Gul underwent an examination at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in New Delhi where his weight and height measurements were revealed to be 17 kg (37.5 pounds) and 1 foot 10.5 inches (57 cm) respectively. Throughout his life, Gul struggled with a number of health issues including bronchitis and asthma. He eventually succumbed to death from respiratory complications on October 1, 1997.

2. Chandra Bahadur Dangi (1 Foot 9 ½ Inches)

Despite being born into a large family in November 1939, Chandra Bahadur Dangi of Nepal managed to distinguish himself as one of a kind. Standing at 1 foot 9 ½ inches, he was the most peculiar amongst his siblings. Two of his five brothers and his two sisters managed to reach average height, while his remaining three brothers stood a little under four feet. Chandra was bestowed with the title of the shortest human ever recorded and confirmed after he went through the standard measuring tests of the Guinness World Records in February 2012.

Although he was a primordial dwarf, it wasn’t ascertained what medical condition stunted his growth. Chandra spent most of his life living in his small remote village, Reemkholi. So he wasn’t discovered by other parts of the world until he was 72. He passed away three years later, on September 3, at a hospital in American Samoa. At the time, he was touring as part of a circus called Tupa’i Bruno’s Magic Circus. The cause of Chandra’s death was not disclosed, though some reports claim it might have been related to ill health.

1. Francis Joseph Flynn (1 Foot 9 Inches)

Although Chandra Bahadur’s name has been written down in history as the shortest man (known to us) who has ever lived, Francis Joseph Flynn might have held that title if there was enough evidence to support his claim to the title. However, he still belongs on this list of the shortest men in the world. He was born on October 6, 1864, in New York, U.S.A, and grew to be a very popular dwarf. He toured the world as part of circuses and slideshows, displaying his unbelievable stature to everyone who cared to see. Francis was often referred to as General Mite. He married a fellow dwarf, Millie Edwards of England, and their wedding ceremony was attended by thousands. The couple later relocated to Australia in 1890, where Francis died in 1898, just the day before his 34th birthday.
