Sawyer Fredericks is a talented American singer-songwriter and guitarist, most popular for being the winner of the 2015 edition of the talent show, The Voice. He won the talent show at the age of 16, which made him the second youngest winner of the show as at when he won it, but as at the end of The Voice 14th season and following the triumph of 15-year-old Brynn Cartelli as its winner, Fredericks is now the third youngest to have emerged as winner of the show.
He was born as Sawyer Christopher Fredericks on March 31, 1999, in Newton, Connecticut as the youngest of three male kids born to Kirsten Fredericks and Carl Fredericks. His elder siblings are Aric Fredericks and Skyler Fredericks. Sawyer Fredericks was home-schooled and he grew up in an 88-acre farm in New York.
Fredericks started training his voice and began learning to play the guitar when he was 11 years old. At 12, the young talented musician started performing at open mic shows, events organized by the community and some other occasions.
In 2012, Sawyer Fredericks competed in the Young Artist Talent Search held in Pawling, New York. It was the first official talent show Fredericks attended and he finished in the show as one of its finalists. It was in that same year that he started his musical career actively. He made his first demo, recording six original songs. Although it was not an official album, Fredericks released his first studio album on June 4, 2013, titled Out My Window. The album was released with Fredericks working independently, without a record label. Out My Window consist of 15 tracks all of which was written by Fredericks.
In 2015, Sawyer Fredericks competed in the award-winning talent show, The Voice. It was the show’s 8th season and it held from February to May that year. The show’s talent scouts first saw Fredericks perform songs on his YouTube channel, they recognized his talent and decided to invite him for an audition for the talent show. Fredericks passed the audition and he chose Happy crooner as his coach. On the show, Fredericks continued advancing into the next stages and he eventually advanced to the final.
On the final week of the talent show, Sawyer came up against Koryn Hawthorne, Meghan Linsey, and Joshua Davis. Both Fredericks and Hawthorne were on Pharrell’s team. At the final, Sawyer did a duet with his coach , they performed Summer Bleeze. Fredericks also did a solo performance of Old Man. Finally, he sang an original song titled Please. At the end of the show, Sawyer Fredericks was announced as the winner of the 8th season of The Voice. He received a cash prize of $100,000 and a recording contract with Republic Records. Meghan Linsey emerged as the show’s runner-up while Joshua Davis and Koryn Hawthorne finished in 3rd and 4th place respectively.
