As early as the second year of high school, Tyreke Evans was already drawing comparisons to hoops legend, Tracy McGrady. That says a lot about his immense talent at such an early stage in his career.
He was recruited in the 2009 NBA draft after which he earned the NBA Rookie of the Year Award in 2010 and went on to have two stints with the Sacramento Kings and some time with the New Orleans Pelicans. The Chester, Pennsylvania native was born Tyreke Jamir Evans on September 19, 1989. His high school career is definitely one to look back on with immense satisfaction. While at American Christian Academy in Aston, he was a first-team Parade All-American and also MVP and Co-MVP for the McDonald’s High School All-American Game and the Jordan Brand Classic respectively.
The player who was highly sought after by various Universities finally opted for the University of Memphis. Here he had a rough start due to his incompatibility with the different rules he was asked to play. He finally found his feet when he was inserted in the point guard position. His contributions from this point on saw him clinch eight Conference USA Rookie of the Week Awards in his freshman year.
While some other usually forgo their final year of college to play professionally, Tyreke Evans ditched University after only his freshman year and declared for the 2009 NBA draft. During the exercise, he was selected 4th overall by the Sacramento Kings.
He didn’t waste time to prove himself either as he was named NBA Western Conference Rookie of the Month in December for his stellar okay in the season so far. He continued to prove his mettle with outstanding performances against the likes of the Chicago Bulls. After a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to injury, Tyreke Evans spent part of the 2011-2012 season with Italy’s Virtus Roma, thanks to the NBA lockout. The following season, he averaged above 15 points and 4 rebounds although he missed a massive chunk of the regular season due to an injury.
Ahead of the 2013–2014 season, Evans joined the New Orleans Pelicans. He spent four years with the franchise and in that time he recorded some enviable feats. These included a career-high 41 points against Oklahoma and an impressive win against his former employers in April 2015.
In February of 2017, Sacramento came back for him and this kick-started his second stint with the team. It was short-lived, however, as he was moved on to the Memphis Grizzlies five months later. It was here that Tyreke Evans usurped Mike Miller’s Grizzlies record of 27 consecutive games with a 3-pointer.
Ahead of the 2018–2019 season, Evans was signed by the Indiana Pacers where he posted 14 points and 6 assists on his debut in a victory against his immediate former employers.

Tyreke Evan’s impressive performances have often come sandwiched between lengthy injury spells. Following his enviable rookie season, he suffered an injury that kept him out of the squad for 19 games. In the 2012-2013 season, he suffered another injury, this time to his left knee that kept him out of action for 16 games.
After he joined the New Orleans Pelicans, he suffered his nastiest injury yet. This caused him to miss the first 17 games of the season. He came back for a while before aggravating the injury and this culminated in him being sidelined for the rest of the season. He would go on to suffer another 10-game absence the following season, thanks to a rib injury.
As at the end of the 2017-2018 season, Tyreke’s professional career has seen him star in 525 regular season games, with 117 of those seeing him come off the bench. For these games, he has averaged 16.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 1.3 steals.
