William Bret Baier is an author and journalist of American nationality. He is most recognized for being the anchor of Special Report with Bret Baier which airs on Fox News Channel. Bret Baier is also Fox News’ Chief political anchor but his resume would be incomplete if it doesn’t convey him being the former White House Chief correspondent for Fox News. He is the author of Special Heart: A Journey of Faith, Hope, Courage, and Love. A book he wrote in dedication to his son who has cardiac issues, as a show of support as he fights to overcome the heart problems.

Born Bret Baier to Bill and Pat Baier on August 4, 1970, in Rumson, New Jersey, the journalist was raised in Georgia and in the Roman Catholic faith. He served as an altar boy at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church when he was a teenager. Bret attended a private Roman Catholic high school named Marist High School in Atlanta, Georgia and graduated in 1988. He then obtained his bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and English from the University of DePauw in Greencastle, Indiana, in 1992. During his college days, Bret was a member of the Xi chapter of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.
His Career
Bret’s career as a journalist and television personality started when he took up a job at a local television station in Rockford, Illinois. From here, he moved on to work for WRAL-TV in North Carolina before joining CBS in the bid to take his career to greater heights, he wanted a place where he could show his work and connect to the world with ease. He eventually got this with Fox News Channel. He had sent a videotaped audition to the network channel, and in 1998, Bret was called up and started work at the news channel as the Chief of Atlanta bureau.
On September 11, 2001, following the terrorist attack on the Pentagon, Bret drove down to Arlington, Virginia from Georgia to cover the attack on the headquarters of the United States Department of Defense. After the incident at the Pentagon which Bret covered first hand, Fox News decided to reward his courage, they did so by making him Fox News Pentagon correspondent. He held the position for 5 years during which he made several daring trips to the Middle-East as a correspondent for Fox News, 13 of those trips were to Iraq and 11 to Afghanistan.
In 2007, Bret was made Fox News White House correspondent. His position came as a reward for his dedication to his country. During his time as the White House Chief correspondent for Fox News, he covered George W. Bush’s administration. Later that same year, he occasionally substituted for the then host of Special Report, Brit Hume until December 23, 2008, when he was announced as the official replacement for Hume on the show. January 5, 2009, marked Bret Baier’s first show as Special Report permanent host.
