The American professional basketball player’s journey to the NBA has been nothing short of challenging.

Isaiah Briscoe Bio

Isaiah Briscoe was born on April 13, 1996, to a basketball family. When your father is a hall of Famer, your sister a former player and your cousin, , basketball is no more just a calling or passion, it becomes a responsibility.

A lot of people tend to believe being born to a sporting family means you are naturally blessed with the talent and determination for success that drove the ones before you, but no. It is something that has to be honed, perhaps after a disappointment. For Isaiah, that disappointment was not getting selected to the AAU team in his seventh grade.

Failing to make the AAU team fueled Isaiah’s determination. So when he was invited to the LeBron James Skills Academy in the eighth grade, he played so well, using the physical advancement of his body compared to that of his peers to his advantage.
Briscoe did not let up after his AAU team experience. He was never going to be looked over again and he made sure of it.

Isaiah Briscoe attended two schools, Saint Benedict’s Preparatory School and Roselle Catholic High School. In each school, he delivered exemplary performances. At Saint Benedict’s, he almost led the team to win an ESPN National High School Invitational Championship. He was a lot more successful in crossing the finish line at Roselle, leading the team to two state titles in 2014 and 2015.

Isaiah Briscoe’s renewed determination paid off. In 2014, he was invited to the AAU team for AAU New Jersey and with an average of 19.2 points and 5 assists over a course of 23 games, he drove the team to the 2014 Nike Peach Championship. Isaiah was becoming a player to watch out for and it reflected in Rivals.com’s ranking for the 2015 recruiting class. Isaiah was ranked #10 nationally and was named the number one point guard in his class.

College was the next point for Isaiah and as a star prospect, he was not short of options as a player. He, however, chose the University of Kentucky. 2014/2015 was a great period for Isaiah’s budding career. Not only did he get his chance at the AAU stage, but he was also ranked highly by top scouting organizations in the sport, including ESPN who ranked him nationally as the 13th best talent among his peers. On the international front, he led Team USA in 2014 to a FIBA Americans U18 Championships gold medal, making it his first international honor. The accolades were not done for Isaiah. In 2015, he was also named a McDonald’s All American, among others.

At college, Isaiah was playing at a higher level among even better players, he struggled in his freshman season but came into his own in his sophomore season, returning a much better 12.1 points per game compared to the 9.6 points he had in his freshman season. Briscoe entered himself for the 2017 NBA draft at the end of that season.

The decision to forgo his college eligibility may have been too soon for Isaiah in 2017. He went undrafted and despite playing in the NBA Summer League for the Philadelphia 76ers and a training camp contract with the Trail Blazers, he was unable to secure a rookie contract. It was AAU all over again for this Isaiah.

But he did not give up, he went to Estonia, and signed for Kalev/Cramo where he impressed with his performances, returning 18.5 points and 4.2 assists per game. It paid off and he was signed on July 6, 2018, by the Orlando Magic.
