Dulce Maria is a Mexican singer, songwriter, actress and author. She has been in the entertainment scene since she was a little girl, doing commercials with over 100 works to her credit. She was born on December 6, 1985, in Mexico City, Federal District, Mexico and named Dulce María Espinoza Saviñón by her parents, Bianca Saviñón and Fernando Espinoza. She has two sisters, Blanca Ireri and Claudia Maria and is the great niece of the legendary Mexican painter, Frida Khalo. Her ancestry is mixed, consisting of German, Mexican Indian, and Spanish.

Dulce started her career as a little girl of 8 doing television commercials and appeared on Mexico’s version of Sesame Street titled, Plaza Sesamo. Other commercials she featured in include one for the Mexican furniture store Viana during Mother’s Day. Besides commercials, she took part in several specials on the Mexican Discovery Kids Channel and worked in soap operas in Televisa.

Singing Career

Dulce became a member of the Mexican music group K.I.D.S. in 1996. After three years, she decided to leave due to some personal reasons and would start another group, D&D with her then-boyfriend, Daniel Habif who was also a member of K.I.D.S. The duo recorded five songs but went their separate ways shortly after.

Thereafter, she joined the Mexican girl-band, Jeans in early 2000 until 2002 when she left to film her movie Clase 406. She was subsequently cast in Rebelde whose success launched the Latin pop group RBD made up of Mexican actors and singers; Dulce, Maite Perroni, Christian Chávez, Alfonso Herrera, and Christopher von Uckermann. They found international success from 2004 until their separation in 2009 and was nominated twice for a Latin Grammy Award as well as won numerous others. Also, they made 9 studio albums, including records in Spanish, Portuguese and English, and sold more than 60 million records worldwide, making them the most successful Latin pop group of all-time.

She has also collaborated with a number of notable musicians to create hit tracks. Her collaborators include the Italian singer Tiziano Ferro and Mexican singer Anahí on El Regalo Màs Grande, Akon; for his hit 2009 track, Beautiful, Spanish producer/singer Juan Magan in 2010 on Inevitable, the Swedish singer, Basshunter on Wake Up Beside Me in 2013, and Dominican/Spanish singer Henry Mendez on No Regresa Más in 2014.

Following the disbanding of RBD, Dulce Maria signed with Universal Music in October 2009 and began recording as a solo artist. She has released three studio albums: Extranjera (2010), Sin Fronteras (2014) and DM (2017).

Her first album debuted at number one on Mexico’s AMPROFON and she also became the first Mexican artist to be certified platinum in Brazil. Moreover, it pays homage to the late Tejano singer, in the track Ya No. Her fourth album, which will be called Origen is expected to release in 2019.

Acting Career

Since her days in the commercial arena with over 100 commercials to her credit, Dulce has starred in many successful telenovelas including El vuelo del águila (1994), Nunca te olvidaré (1999), Clase 406 (2003), Rebelde (2004), RBD: La Familia (2007), Verano de Amor (2009), Mentir para Vivir (2013), Corazón Que Mmiente (2016) – where she was cast in her first antagonist role and Muy padres (2018).

She attained international fame after starring in Rebelde as the strong-willed daughter of a famous Mexican singer and received the 2006 TVyNovelas award for Best Young Telenovela Actress for her work.

Apart from her dominance on the television, she is also a force on the big screen. In 2010, she portrayed Lupita in the indie film project, Alguien Ha Visto A Lupita? (Has Anyone Seen Lupita?), starring alongside Chilean actor Cristian de la Fuente. Her other film credits include Inesperado Amor (2000), El agente 00-P2 (2009), Quiero ser fiel (2014).

Furthermore, Dulce does not only appear onscreen to entertain her audience but also uses her established presence therein to promote causes dear to her heart like PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals). For instance, she appeared in a PETA video in 2015, discouraging people from attending circuses that use animals and in July 2018, she joined PETA campaign against SeaWorld.

She was also named Febre Teen magazine 2014 Latin Star of the Year and received Para Todos’ magazine Best Latin Singer award at their 20th Anniversary in 2015.

Besides the accolades she has received for her works, she has also been recognized by various media outlets for her features. Philanthropy

Dulce is not only known as an actress cum singer, she is also prominent for her involvement in humanitarian services and campaigns.

In September 2009, she was chosen by Google, Save the Children and Chicos.net as representative of the Technology Yes campaign aimed at promoting the proper use of technology and the Internet among children and youths. She created her own foundation in October 2009 known as Fundación Dulce Amanecer through which she contributes to social causes such as supporting the communities of indigenous women and caring for the environment. For her actions and impact on the environment and society, she received Pro-Social Award of the Kids Choice Awards Mexico 2011.

Dulce Maria was invited by KaBOOM! and Kool-Aid in August 2012 to help build and open a playground located in Lynwood, California designed to promote physical activity among minors and reduce obesity levels among them.

Her dating arena never seems to be short of activities. Dulce’s relationship timeline would contain names like Luis Rodrigo Reyes (2011 – 2012), her Verano de Amor castmate Pablo Lyle (2009), a Mexican professional footballer Francisco Guillermo Ochoa (2006 – 2007), RBD bandmate Alfonso Herrera (2002 – 2005). Besides these confirmed relationships, Dulce was rumoured to have hooked up with the American singer, after their on-stage performance in August 2011.

The redhaired bombshell started dating Mexican filmmaker, poet, writer, documentary filmmaker and executive producer, Paco Álvarez in 2016.
