After he won his first PGA Tour event as a rookie in 2004, Zach Johnson has gone ahead to win eleven other PGA Tours including the 2007 Masters, 2015 Open Championship and 2 major championships. The American professional golfer is the 6th golfer to win the majors both at St. Andrews and at Augusta.
Zach Johnson Bio
Zach was born to Dave and Julie Johnson in Iowa City, Iowa on the 24th of February 1978 as Zachary Harris Johnson. He is the oldest of their three kids. Zach and his two younger siblings were raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa’s second largest city. Johnson has always had a thing for sports. Growing up, he played American football, soccer, baseball, and even basketball. It was at the age of ten that he developed an interest in golf and began nurturing it by enrolling at Elmcrest Country Club.
As a high school student at Regis High School, Zach played on the school golf team as number-two and as a sophomore in 1992, he led the team to an Iowa 3A state championship. After graduating from high school in 1994, Johnson attended Drake University, Des Moines, where he also played on the school golf team as number-two and would lead the team to 3 NCAA regional meets as well as two Missouri Valley championships.
Johnson’s uncle, Tom Harris, was also a golfer who qualified for the 1975 NAIA national tournament. Zach Johnson started playing professionally in 1998, he began with the development tour circuit and would continue in it until he was eventually promoted automatically to the PGA Tour in 2013 after he topped the money list on the Nationwide Tour. His first victory came the following year at the BellSouth Classic held outside of Atlanta in 2004, he finished just one stroke ahead of Australian professional golfer Mark Hensby.
In 2006, he recorded some other impressive results like making two runner-up positions and finishing in the third position at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship. This earned him his first ticket to play with the U.S team for the Ryder Cup, Johnson was ninth on the U.S point list. His first major title came the following year (2007) at the Augusta Masters Tournament after he beat Rory Sabbatini, Retief Goosen, and by two strokes to emerge the winner of the tournament. This singular win placed him among the top 20 golfers in the world at the time, he moved from his rank as the No. 56 in the world to No. 15. Zach Johnson became the first golfer outside the top fifty world ranking list to win the Masters. After this, he has ensured to maintain consistency. For every year since his first Masters’ win, he has won at least a tournament which includes an AT&T Classic, Valero Texas Open title, and the BMW Championship.
In 2013, he beat Tiger Woods at the Northwestern Mutual World Challenge, this win placed him among the top ten golfers in the world for the first time in his career. The next year, he became the seventh on the list of the Official World Golf Ranking after winning the Hyundai Tournament of Champions.
Roughly two years later (in 2015), he won the 12th PGA Tour as well as his second major after beating Marc Leishman and Louis Oosthuizen at the Open Championship at St Andrews. He became the 6th golfer after Woods, Sam Snead, Seve Ballesteros, Jack Nicklaus, and Nick Faldo to win the majors both at St. Andrews and at Augusta.

Zach Johnson has been married to Kim Barclay since 2003. The couple began dating in 2000 after meeting for the first time at the parking lot of an apartment complex where they both lived in Florida. After three years of being together, the couple walked down the aisle in 2003.
Zach and his wife are blessed with three children – two sons (Will and Wyatt) and a daughter named Abby Jane. They currently live in St. Simons, Georgia with their children.
Zach Johnson was raised a Catholic but began attending his Kim’s church before they got married. They used to attend First Baptist Church in Orlando, Florida before they moved over to Georgia. Johnson is vocal about his Christian faith. After winning his first Masters in 2007, he dedicated it to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Johnson stands at a height of 5’9″ (1.8 m) and weighs 161 pounds (73 kg). Back in 2015, the golfer began a program with his trainer and chiropractor Troy Van Biezen. The essence of the program was to help him gain at least 10 pounds of muscles. It didn’t go quite well as most days he would ignore the program and go out for a 30 minutes intense workout which reduces the muscles instead of increasing them.
