Kari Jobe’s Bio
The contemporary Christian music singer was born Kari Brooke Jobe on the 6th of April 1981 in Waco, Texas, United States. She was raised by her parents; Mark and Caroline “Sandy” (née Bragg) Jobe in Watauga, and later Hurst, both towns in the state of Texas. Kari who was born into a Christian home and gave her life to Christ at the young age of 5.
She had begun singing from the age of three and her Christian faith would come to influence her music. Kari sought from a tender age to become a gospel minister. In order to get her dreams fulfilled, she attended the famous Oral Roberts University. She also enrolled at both Christ for the Nations Institute and Dallas Baptist University earning a degree in pastoral studies and psychology.
Throughout her time at the University, Kari kept developing on her music. While she attended Christ for the Nations Institute she got her first taste of fame with her rendition of “Revelation Song” which would later be included in the debut album of Gateway Worship. She had been attending Texas’ Gateway Church for 6 years when she was called up by the church to serve as an associate pastor after earning her degree.
As a pastor at Gateway church, Kari Jobe was involved in international missionary projects and worked most times alongside her father Mark. In 2003, three years after Gateway church was started, music lovers from the church formed Gateway Worship music band and Kari became one of the leaders in the band. Their debut studio album, Unsearchable was released in 2003, after which they released their debut live album Living for You in 2006. Their second live album, Wake Up the World, released in 2008 peaked at number 2 on Billboard’s Christian Album’s Chart. Walls, their 6th live album released in 2015 topped the charts too.
In addition to singing with Gateway, Kari Jobe worked on solo projects. She released a self-titled compilation album, a live concert album, and a Christmas album before releasing her debut self-titled studio album in February 2009 which charted on Billboard 200. At the end of the year, Jobe won a couple of awards and was nominated for Dove Award’s Best New Artist.
Jobe’s music career has only gotten better since. Where to Find You (2012) and Majestic (2014) topped the Christian charts while The Garden (2017) became her first UK number 1 album.
Husband and Family Life
Kari Jobe is married to Cody Carnes, a fellow gospel musician. Cody like Kari has loved music since he was a child. He started leading worship as a teenager and played with a number of Christian bands including Hit the Ground Running and Crimson Soul. He then joined Gateway Church and became part of their Gateway worship band where he met Kari Jobe.
The couple announced their engagement in August 2014 via an Instagram post and on November 21st, 2014, they got married.
After singing and co-writing songs with his wife, Cody began a solo career in February 2017, signing a deal with Capitol CMG. He released “The Cross Has the Final Word” as his debut single. The Darker the Night/The Brighter the Morning released in September 2017 was his debut solo album. He featured Kari on the track, Till the end of time.
The couple attended the 2015 Dove Awards together and took to the red carpet to announce that they were expecting their first baby. Their first son Canyon Carnes arrived on February 18, 2016. Kari said that God gave her the name of her son even before the lad was born. She has explained that Canyon means a deep ravine through which water flows through and they are usually formed through storms.
In June 2018, Kari announced that she and her husband were expecting their second baby. For the announcement, Kari took to Instagram to post a photo of young Canyon with “BIG BROTHER” written with chalk on the sidewalk. Kari revealed in the caption of the post that the baby would arrive in February 2019.
The family lives in their home in Nashville, Texas.
