Greg Olsen is an American football player who has made a name for himself in the National Football League (NFL) playing for the Carolina Panthers as a Tight end. A veteran in the league, he made his debut in 2007 for the Chicago Bears and has since then remained a very important and interesting player in the league. Even though football seems to overshadow every other aspect of his life, there is a lot going on in his personal life.

Greg Olsen’s Biography

The Carolina Panthers Tight end was born Gregory Walter Olsen on March 11, 1985, in Wayne, New Jersey where he was also brought up very close to the New Meadowlands Stadium alongside his siblings Kevin Olsen and Chris Olsen, Jr. all of whom also play football.

Greg began playing football since he was only a child, following in the footsteps of his brother, Chris Olsen, Jr. with the help of their father who served as the coach. He went to the Wayne Hills High School for his education and from here, he moved to the University of Notre Dame before transferring to the University of Miami just a couple of days after his brother, Chris left Notre Dame for the University of Virginia.

When he was in High School, Greg did not only excel in Football but also in basketball. Nonetheless, it was football that would become his calling. With a successful college career, Olsen opted to make the 2007 NFL Draft where he got selected by the Chicago Bears in the first round as the 31st pick overall. Soon afterward, he was given a five year deal with the club and got to make his League debut on 23 September 2007.

He continued playing for the team until 2011 when he was traded to the Carolina Panthers where he has continued to play since then. In 2018, he was given a 2-year contract that would see him earn $17.1 million which could max at $20.1 million.

Even though he may not necessarily be the best player on many lists, Greg Olsen will definitely make it to the top when looking at tight ends alhough not in the Jeremy Shockey sense. He got to make 3 Pro Bowls between from 2014 to 2016 and 2 second-team All-pro in 2015 and 2016. In his early days, he was awarded the Brian Piccolo Award and was named the PFWA All-Rookie Team both in 2007.

Brother, Wife, and Kids

As indicated, Olsen was brought up alongside two brothers who also got involved in football, which represents the claim of Greg that his family revolves around the sport. His elder brother, Chris Olsen, Jr. played since he was a child because of the influence of their father who was a coach, and he also played in college but was unable to make it to the NFL.

There is also Kevin Olsen who is the youngest of the three brothers and who like the two others has also been involved in the sports all through his life thus far. A quarterback for the Charlotte 49ers of the University of North Carolina, Kevin has set his eyes on playing in the NFL. However, he now faces a rape case that may see him spend up to 10 years behind bars although he denies the allegation and has refused a plea deal.

On his part, Greg Olsen is not only having a successful professional life, but also a good personal life as he is already a married man. He tied the knot in 2009 to Kara Dooley whom he met at the University of Miami when they were both students of the college.

Two years after becoming man and wife, Greg and Kara had their first child, Tate Christian Olsen who was born in 2011. On her next birth on October 9, 2012, Kara Dooley gave Olsen a set of twins, Talbot and Trent Jerry.

The beautiful family now lives in Carolina where the Panthers star keeps playing football while Kara Dooley is involved in Charity work with the Greg Olsen Foundation which was founded in 2009 by the NFL star to raise funds and assist people suffering from cancer. He started the foundation because of the experience of his mother, Susan Olsen who had battled and survived cancer for more than a decade now.

Height and Weight

As you would expect of a man playing in the NFL, Greg is a man with a good height and body build. He stands at a massive height of ‎6 ft 5 in (1.96 m) while his body weight is 255 lb (116 kg).
