American-born actress and producer Julianna Margulies has nearly three decades of brilliant work behind her both on the screen and on stage. Julianna Luisa Margulies was born on June 8, 1966, in Spring Valley, New York. Her mother Francesca (née Goldberg) was a professional ballerina and a performance art tutor. Her father Paul Margulies was an author, a scholar, and an advertising professional. Both of her parents were Jewish descendants of European immigrants. The family lived in Isreal for a while but they returned to the US before Julianna was born.
She had her early education at Green Meadow Waldorf School located in Rockland County, New York. For high school, Julianna attended High Mowing School located in Wilton, New Hampshire. She obtained her B.A. degree in liberal arts at New York’s Sarah Lawrence College where she featured in numerous stage plays.
In 1991, Margulies marked her film debut in the action thriller Out for Justice. This was followed by guest roles in a number of TV series including Law & Order (1993) and Homicide: Life on the Street (1994). The actress got her acting breakthrough in 1994 when she was cast in the pilot of the medical drama ER.
