Denver Broncos Wide receiver Demaryius Thomas is an Afro-American professional football player of the national football league (NFL). Drafted by the Broncos in the first round of the NFL draft of 2010, Thomas was the 22nd overall pick in the draft. Demaryius Thomas’ Bio (Age)

Demaryius Thomas was born in Montrose, Georgia on December 25, 1987, to African-American parents and has an American nationality. He attended West Laurens High School situated in Dexter, Georgia. While at the school, Thomas participated in track and field events as well as basketball and football. As a junior, he played the position of a wide receiver under coach Andrew Slome. His outstanding performances earned him scholarship offers from Duke, Georgia Tech, and Georgia Bulldogs. He also participated in the 2006 Georgia Olympics where he featured in the 100-meter dash, 4 x 100 meters relay and he finished fourth in triple jump.

During his college career, he joined Georgia Institute of Technology where he played for the Georgia Tech football team under the direction of coach Chan Galley. Thomas was redshirted in the 2006 season and in 2007, he played thirteen games for the team recording 35 receptions with 558 receiving yards. He earned a freshman All-America honorable mention and was named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference in the same year. Thomas got his breakout season in 2009, recording 46 receptions with 1,154 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. He got 1st team All-ACC honors and was listed among the prospects of the 2010 NFL draft.

Professional Career and Stats

Demaryius was selected as the 22nd overall pick by Denver Broncos during the NFL draft of 2010. He later signed up with the Broncos on a five-year deal worth $12.155 million with $9.35 million guaranteed. His rookie season was cut short due to injuries, he played 10 out of 15 games averaging two touchdowns per game with 22 reception and 283 receiving yards.

The following season, he set an NFL franchise record as he led the Broncos in targets and receiving in the last seven games of the season. He finished the season recording four touchdowns and 32 receptions with 551 receiving yards. He was named to the Pro Bowl in 2012 and was placed at 68th position in the NFL Top 100 Players List of 2013. The following year, he participated in the Super Bowl XLVIII and also ranked number 49 on NFL Top 100 Players of 2014.

Thomas got a franchise tag from the Broncos in 2015 and his contract was extended with another five-year deal worth $70 million. That year, he finished with six touchdowns, 105 receptions, and 1,304 receiving yards. By the end of the season, he was named to the Super Bowl 50. After his fifth game in the 2016 season, he was named to the 2017 Pro Bowl. Thomas has remained a consistent figure and an important part of the Broncos; he has recorded nothing but great improvements in his eight-year running career with the team.

Injury

One of Demaryius Thomas’ most underrated traits is his durability. The star has been through a host of injuries over the past seven seasons of his professional career. Nevertheless, he has not missed a single game on account of injury. While playing against the Giants in October 2017, Thomas twisted his ankle and was limping after the game. However, after an MRI was conducted on the star, it showed it was just a bruise. Thomas returned to the field in their next game against the Chargers.

His Mom

Thomas was born to African-American parents Bobby Thomas and Katina Smith. He was their only child and when he was growing up, police raided his mother’s apartment arresting both his mother and grandmother. They were sentenced to 20 years and life imprisonment for distribution of crack cocaine. Following the incident, Thomas was raised by his aunt and uncle.

Interestingly, on July 30, 2015, the former US President , reduced his mother’s sentence and she was later released in November 2015. Similarly, Obama also commuted that of his grandmother Pearl Thomas on August 2, 2016. His mother watched him play football for the first time in January 2016. It was indeed a moment of reunion and great joy for Thomas and his family.
