Travis Tritt is an American-born country musician, singer-songwriter, and actor. Tritt attained superstardom in the 1990s with several hit country records having launched his career in 1987. Over the years, the talented artist has had 40 titles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts, five of which made it to No. 1. Seven of Tritt’s 20-plus albums have attained platinum certification or higher making him one of the best-selling country music artists of the 90s. Travis Tritt is a two-time Grammy Award winner and has also received 4 Country Music Association (CMA) Awards.

Travis Tritt on February 9, 1963, in Marietta, Georgia. His parents are James and Gwen Tritt. He developed an interest in music as a child after watching his church’s Sunday school choir perform Ray Stevens’ “Everything Is Beautiful.” He received his first guitar at the age of 8 after which he taught himself how to play. The young Travis became a bit of a celebrity in school and was invited to play in different classes. He equally toured various churches having joined his church band as a teenager. He started writing songs and also joined a music group while still in high school.
Travis Tritt released his demo album titled Proud of the Country in 1987 with which he landed a recording deal with Warner Bros. Nashville division. Under his initial contract, the singer was expected to deliver 3 hit singles before he would be signed for a full album. Being a musical genius, Tritt performed way beyond expectations as his 1990 debut album Country Club contained 9 top 10 hits. He received the Billboard Top New Male Artist award in 1990 and was nominated for the CMA Horizon Award (now known as the New Artist Award).
Tritt’s second album It’s All About to Change (1991) even trumped the success of the first as all 4 of its 10 singles reached top 5 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. The album has also become Tritt’s most successful album yet having attained triple-platinum certification. Travis Tritt received a Grammy Award in 1991 for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals alongside fellow country singer Marty Stuart for their work on the hit single “The Whiskey Ain’t Workin”.
Tritt’s third and fourth studio albums released in 1992 and 1994 respectively equally attained double-platinum certification. Tritt won his 2nd Grammy award alongside his longtime collaborator Stuart for their work on the latter’s 1998 song “Same Old Train” and at the turn of the century, he parted ways with Warner Bros. Records moved over to Columbia Records.
His first album with Columbia, Down the Road I Go contained the hit single “Best of Intentions” which became Tritt’s 5th and final No. 1 hit. The talented singer released 2 more fairly successful albums with Columbia before his departure from the label in 2005. Travis Tritt joined Category 5 Records in February 2006 where he released one album The Storm (2007). Tritt’s stint with Category 5 ended in abruptly in November 2007 after the label was shut down over legal battles. Travis Tritt is currently married to his wife of over 2 decades, Theresa Nelson. The couple met way back in February 1995 and tied the knot on April 12, 1997. They have 2 children together; 2 sons and a daughter. Their first son, Tristan James, was born on June 16, 1999. Their first and only daughter Tyler Reese was born on February 18, 1998, and they welcomed their second son, Tarian Nathaniel, on November 20, 2003.
Travis Tritt had been married twice in the past prior to his current union. In September 1982, 19-year-old Travis Tritt got married to his high school sweetheart, Karen Ryon. However, the marriage barely lasted for 2 years and ended in a divorce in 1984. Shortly afterwards, he got together with a woman named Jodi Barnett who was 12 years his senior. This second marriage broke down in 1989 and their divorce was finalized in January 1990.

Tritt’s daughter, Tyler Reese Tritt has towed her famous father’s footsteps into music. As a teenager, she collaborated with her father on a revival of the classic “Sometimes Love Just Ain’t Enough” which was recorded for the 2013 re-release of his album The Storm. She has since furthered her own music career through several live performances. In 2017, she opened for her father at various tours and concerts. On November 3, 2017, Tyler Reese Tritt eventually released her debut single “Perfect” via Post Oak Records.
