Biography

Born Elena Delle Donne on September 5, 1989, in Wilmington Delaware the prolific basketballer is an America of white Ethnicity. She has hazel eyes and brown hair and was brought up in a Christian, Roman Catholic home. She has one older brother Gene Delle Donne and an older sister Lizzie Delle Donne, she is the youngest child of her family. Elena had her education at Ursuline Academy and attended the University of Delaware.

Her journey to fame started in High school at Ursuline Academy where she played both basketball and volleyball. Finishing well in high school, she received a basketball scholarship to the University of Connecticut where she started but soon dropped out because she wanted to be close to home so she enrolled at the University of Delaware from where she graduated obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Human Services in 2013.

While at Delaware, she started out playing for the volleyball team but dropped out of the team in 2009 after losing a spot in the NCAA Tournament. She joined the basketball team in 2009 announcing that she was all in with the Blue Hens. Elena Delle Donne led the team to numerous victories in different tournaments and competition until she graduated.

In the same year she graduated, she was selected second overall for the WNBA draft in 2013 by the Chicago Sky. Her excellent play saw her being named WNBA MVP for the 2015 season. Elena Delle Donne played two NBA All-Star Celebrity Games for  2014 and 2016. Following an injury that saw her sit out a big part of the 2016 season and being that her rookie contract was at an end, Elena was traded to the Washington Mystics.

Elena Delle Donne played her debut match or the Mystics in May 2017. Ater a series of injuries, she ended the season on a not so high note as the Mystics were defeated by the Minnesota Lynx.

She is worth $7 million and receives $800 thousand annually.

Health

Elena was diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2008 after she was bitten by an infected tick during her High school days at their family property. However, she has been on supplements to enable her body fight against the disease. Due to her sister Lizzie’s condition, Delle Donne hardly ever plays overseas as she prefers to be around to take care of her sister who she is very close to. But in 2017, she decided to give the international front a try and signed a short-term contract with the Shanxi team of China.

Her stay was cut short when the Lyme disease popped up again and forced her to return home to the US.

Elena Delle Donne is not as straight as most of her fans would have loved. She is a lesbian and has been dating Amanda Clifton for a long time, they started their relationship in the year 2013 and in August 2016, she announced their engagement in a Vogue profile. Elena had proposed to Amanda at the same beach where they first met. The lovebirds followed up the engagement by tieing the knot on November 3, 2017, in a ceremony that resulted in their being tagged as the 2017 Dream Wedding Couple by The Knot. Their wedding was done in a big way and the remnants from the wedding were given to the poor.

Amanda Clifton attended Illinois State University where she was a member of the basketball team. She is currently the manager of Elena’s basketball academy. The duo has unrepeatably mentioned how the desire to help the less privileges has brought them together. They set up the Elena Delle Donne Foundation which they invited guests at their wedding to donate to as their wedding gift. The foundation was made to cater to special needs programming and Lyme disease research.

Elena Delle Donne’s Body And Height

Elena’s body is definitely her most distinguishing feature. She has an incredible height that cannot be mistaken anywhere especially for a woman standing at 6 feet 5 inches tall. To complete her very tall figure, she is balanced on a weight of 85kg giving her the perfect body mass index. Her other body measurements are 38-28-37 being bust, waist, and hips respectively. She wears a size 34B Bra, size is 12 (US) for the shoes and dress size (12).

Genes they say don’t lie, Elena got her height from her parents, her mother Joan Delle Donne is 6 feet 2 inches tall whilst her father Ernest Delle Donne who works as a real estate developer is 6 feet 6 inches tall. As a child, Elena had always been thought to be older than her peers due to her towering height. Her mom once said while Elena was three it seemed like she was eight due to her body frame and height. She had also had a few scenarios where she had been embarrassed because of her height. She once narrated how embarrassed she felt in eighth grade (she was 6 feet tall at the time) when they were asked to measure their heights using a paper and her paper extended beyond that of others.

She was growing so fast that at some point while she was in the eighth grade, her doctor adviced her parents to consider giving her an injection that would slow down her growth process so she will begin to look her age. Thank God they did not listen because how else would she have become the amazing basketballer she is today.

On her own part, Elena gives a lot of credit to her mother for helping her to love herself without regrets especially considering the fact that her other sister Lizzie had been born deaf, dumb, blind, with cerebral palsy and autism. According to Elena, her sister’s condition helped her see her body in a whole new light and she soon began to put her height to good use.
