Fighting is not a vocation Cat Zingano born Cathilee Deborah Albert stumbled upon, but rather one she has dedicatedly followed from her first venture into it in her early years. However, it wasn’t until she competed in her first MMA fight in 2007 that she knew it was her forte and a sport she would follow earnestly and compete in, eventually becoming one of the best female fighters in the world. In the course of her thriving career, she has recorded five wins by knockout, three by submission (armbar, anaconda, RNC).

She is an American mixed martial artist born on July 1, 1982 in Winona, Minnesota, US, the youngest of three children of Jon Albert and Barbara Albert. Known also by her nickname, Alpha, she competes in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Like the proverbial cat whose back never touches the ground, Cat Zingano rarely sees defeat

Her career in combat sports kicked off with wrestling when she was 12 with her eventually joining the wrestling team in Fairview High School in Boulder, Colorado where she was the only girl in the team. Driven by her love for the sport, Cat joined both the University of the Cumberlands (2001) and MacMurray College women’s wrestling teams following her high school career. She would excel in both teams eventually becoming a 4-time All-American and National Champion.

Before competing in her first amateur fight in October 2007, Cat Zingano learned about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) after which competition doors opened for her starting her on her way to enormous victories. Some of the tournaments she won in her early career days include the World Championships (Mundials) in Los Angeles, the Rio de Janeiro State Championships in Brazil, not excluding several State titles in Colorado.

Still adept in her act, consistently getting better, she would take her winning streak into a professional career. She had her first MMA fight on June 13, 2008 winning championship titles in three of her first four pro fights. She took part in her first women UFC fight in April 2013 against Meisha Tate in a bout dubbed Fight of the Night, defeating her in the third round. The victory made her the first woman to win a UFC fight by technical knockout (TKO).

Cat Zingano underwent a knee surgery in October 2013 making her return in September 2014 after a year and a half off the fighting arena, against Amanda Nunes. With an understanding that her career, on its own, is an art she could never perfect, she never grows weary of it. She seeks for ways to improve and advance, even after a loss, thus constantly learning. She is set to face Marion Reneau at UFC Fight Night 133 on July 14, 2018.

Cat Zingano Husband

Cat married her longtime boyfriend, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt holder Mauricio Zingano in 2010. She had a son Brayden before she met Mauricio, who he adopted after they got married. Mauricio was the owner of a training facility that is equipped with two gyms in Colorado named Zingano BJJ and had also fought professionally before he changed his focus to teaching and training other fighters.

His wife, Cat was one of his students and under his tutelage, she won eight consecutive fights as an MMA fighter which established her as the UFC No. 1 contender after knocking out Miesha Tate in April 2013. She was also the first mother to compete in UFC.

Success does not automatically confer the immunity to challenges and loses life usually deals to people. The case is no different for Cat Zingano, the dauntless, tough fighter who went through a difficult phase in her life in early 2014. At the wake of her ring victories and dominating in the women’s fight arena, her husband committed suicide on January 13, 2014, at the age of 37, shortly after she suffered an injured knee. Tough as she is in the arena, the experience was a painful one for her to live through.

As is usually the case in such matters, especially where nothing is left as to why one had to take one’s life, many reasons surfaced for why Mauricio died by his own hands. Nothing was said as the definite reason why he hung himself, however, speculations from the couple struggling to keep their marriage together, to cheating scandals and substance abuse abound. No matter the explanation, having a loved one giving in to the pressures of life can leave one distraught and in great grief.

Cat has since risen through the hurt, overcoming not only her husband’s death but a severe knee injury to make her return to what she knows how to do best to fight her way back to life.

Height, Weight, and Body Measurements

She fights in the women’s bantamweight division and has been able to maintain a lean and jacked body, albeit, not without some weight gains and subsequent  at some time. Cat Zingano weighs 135 lb (65 kg) and stands at 5 ft 6 in (1.68 m) tall. Her body measurements are not available.
