Gio Gonzalez is a professional baseball player who has made a name for himself playing in the Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Washington Nationals as a pitcher. Gio Gonzalez’ Biography
He was born as Giovany Aramis González on September 19, 1985, in Hialeah, Florida and was raised alongside his two other brothers by their parents, Yolanda Cid-Gonzalez and Max Gonzalez of Cuban descent. His parents were very poor and had to make a lot of sacrifices to see them through, they took to menial jobs among others which Gio has talked about, reminding himself of how far he has come from nothing.
For his education, he graduated from the Monsignor Edward Pace High School where he transferred to after beginning at the Hialeah High School. He made a great show playing during his school days and as such, he skipped college for professional baseball and got selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 2004 MLB Draft.
Career and Stats
Soon after he was selected by the White Sox, Gio Gonzalez was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies for Jim Thome alongside two others. That will not last as the next year, the White Sox would get him back via a trade.
He played in the minor league until he was called to the majors in 2008 to play for the Oakland Athletics who got him from the White Sox in a trade. Gio remained with the team until 2012 when he was traded to the Washington Nationals in 2012.
Thus far, Gonzalez has enjoyed a great career, with 2 All-Star team appearances in 2011 and 2012, which was the same year he also won the NL wins leader.
