The popular singer and songwriter Ashlee Simpson, also spelt as ‘Ashley’, is the younger sister of the American pop star and fashion designer Jessica Simpson. She is particularly known for her debut record, Autobiography and her participation in the reality show, Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica.
Not only is the Texas-born American citizen known for her widely welcomed songs that have made great sales all around the world, her dance skills as recognised in her sister’s debut album Sweet Kisses also helped her rise to fame. Ashlee is no doubt one of the few young female pop-rock stars who are destined to take the world by surprise.
Biography and age
Ashlee was born Ashlee Nicolle Simpson on October 3, 1984. She was born in Waco, Texa to a homemaker mom Tina Ann (née Drew) and a Psychologist father Joseph Truett “Joe” Simpson. She is four years younger than her pop singer sister, Jessica Simpson. Together with her sister, young Ashlee attended Prairie Creek Elementary and North Junior High School which was, located in Richardson, Texas where they were raised by their highly religious parents before they relocated to Los Angeles, California.
At the age of three, cute-looking young Ashlee Simpson was already establishing her moves as a ballet dancer, She was then sent to School of American Ballet at the age of 11 in order to perfect her dancing skills. While her sister Jessica was taking steps into her career as a singer, Ashlee was already appearing in television commercials with her father serving as her agent. She also had a stint in acting, hence, she made a minor appearance in an American television sitcom, of Malcolm in the Middle and in the 2002 American Comedy teen film, The Hot Chick. These two further opened the way to her higher roles in the TV series. For instance, she was given a major role in the Comedy TV series 7th Heaven, where she played Cecilia Smith in the series’ 40 episodes. She would join her sister on stage as a backup dancer before she released her first single, Just Let Me Cry for the 2003 movie, Freaky Friday. This track led to her fast rise to fame and even earned her a record deal with Geffen Records. Between 2004 and 2005, Ashlee released her debut and hit album Autobiography, she formed her own reality TV series and also appeared on her sister’s reality show. Her studio album was featured on the Billboard 200, making an instant hit while her show garnered rave reviews from American audiences.

Among her boyfriends was Josh Henderson whom she dated for almost two years, from 2002 to 2004 and Ryan Cabrera, a musician like herself. She finally settled to marry an American bassist, lyricist, and backing vocalist for the American rock band Fall Out Boy, Pete Wentz, on May 17, 2008. The marriage ceremony was held at Simpson’s parents’ residence in Encino, California, with Ashlee’s father officiating it.
Ashlee then had her name changed to Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and by November 20 the couple had their son whom they named Bronx Mowgli Wentz. Ashlee filed for a divorce from Wentz on February 9, 2011, citing irreconcilable differences and asked that her maiden name be restored. The divorce was finalized on November 22, 2011, and shortly after her separation, she started dating Vincent Piazza, an actor best known for his role in the HBO television series Boardwalk Empire.
Ashlee’s relationship with the American actor of Italian descent lasted for just a year and half before she left him to hook up with another actor, Evan Ross.
