Rob Lowe is an American actor, producer and author. He rose to fame as a teenager in the 80s and stole millions of hearts with his performances in films such as The Outsiders (1983), St. Elmo’s Fire (1985), About Last Night… (1986) and Square Dance (1987). He was indeed regarded as one of the most promising young actors of the 80s.
His career was nearly truncated by a sex scandal in 1988 but Lowe was able to get himself cleaned up and reinvented his career in the 90s. He has received much critical acclaim throughout his long-running career. His role as Sam Seaborn on The West Wing (1999–2003) earned him an Emmy nomination and 2 Golden Globe nominations.
In 2015, Rob Lowe landed the role of Dr Ethan Willis on the CBS medical drama Code Black.

Born Robert Hepler Lowe on March 17, 1964, in Charlottesville, Virginia, Robert Lowe’s mother Barbara Lynn (née Hepler) was a schoolteacher and his father Charles Davis Lowe was a lawyer. He completed his high school education at Santa Monica High School.
He first gave acting a shot in the 1980s as one of the core members of the “Brat Pack”, a group which also included Demi Moore and Charlie Sheen. Rob Lowe had his big-screen debut when he starred in the 1983 coming-of-age film The Outsiders. He received his first Golden Globe nomination for his role in the 1983 telefilm Thursday’s Child. This was followed by several other prominent roles which made Lowe one of the hottest heartthrobs of the 80s.
However, his blossoming career almost hit the rocks when he got embroiled in a sex scandal involving a minor. He was eventually sentenced to 20 hours of community service. On March 17, 1990, Rob Lowe showed off his comedic side as the host of one episode of Saturday Night Live.
He made a full return to the public eye after getting help for his alcoholism and drug abuse and he got back to acting in the 90s. Following his return, he featured in such movies as Wayne’s World (1992), Contact (1997) and Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999).
His return got a major boost when he was cast as Sam Seaborn in NBC political well-reviewed series The West Wing (1999-2003). He earned as much as $100,00 for each episode and he was also nominated for a Primetime Emmy award as well as 2 Golden Globe nominations for best actor in a Drama Series. Therefore it came as a shock to all and sundry when Rob Lowe decided to quit the show in 2002. According to him, the network was meddling with his character and he was not fairly remunerated.
After leaving the show, his subsequent attempts at creating a TV series such as The Lyon’s Den (2003) and Dr Vegas (2004) were unsuccessful. Rob Lowe was considered for the role of Dr Derek Shepherd on Grey’s Anatomy (2005), which eventually went to Patrick Dempsey.
Lowe had more luck with TV roles in Brothers & Sisters (2006–2010) and as a regular on the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation (2010–14). He also starred in the lead role in The Grinder (2015–2016) for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe and People’s Choice Award.
Rob Lowe turned 54 in March 2018. He has however managed to maintain his youthful looks and has remained a timeless Hollywood hunk.

Rob Lowe’s parents got divorced when he was just 4 years of age. Following that, he was raised by his mother alongside his younger brother Chad Lowe. Like his brother Rob, Chad Lowe is also an actor, director and producer.
As an actor, Chad Lowe won a Primetime Emmy Award in 1993 for his supporting role as an AIDS victim in the drama series Life Goes On. He also had recurring roles in the 90s iconic show Melrose Place and in the medical drama series ER. In April 2010, Chad Lowe was also cast in the role of Byron Montgomery on the teen thriller series Pretty Little Liars.

They first met on a blind date in 1983. Then they met a second time in 1989 while Lowe was filming his film Bad Influence. They tied the knot on July 22, 1991.
Rob Lowe and wife Sheryl Berkoff have 2 sons: Edward Matthew Lowe born in 1993 and John Owen Lowe born in 1995. The actor appeared with his two sons in the A&E reality series The Lowe Files which premiered in August 2017.
