Bio

The award-winning actor Michael Corbett Shannon was born Lexington, Kentucky in the United States on August 7, 1974. He was raised by his parents Geraldine Hine who is a lawyer and Donald Shannon, an accounting professor at DePaul University.

Michael never had a good upbringing courtesy of his parent’s divorce, this affected him emotionally and he reportedly scattered the office of the psychiatrist whom he was sent to for therapy.

The talented star did not attend any drama school, yet, he was able to kick-start his career in Chicago where he lived with his dad. As a child, he dreamed of being a jazz musician or an architect.

Career

When he was sixteen years old, Michael found a mentor named Tracy Letts who coached him on stage techniques. Later on, he started playing small roles in movies. He made his first film appearance on Groundhog Day in 1993 and in 1996, he featured in the movie titled Bug.

Michael Shannon got his breakthrough in 2008 after he starred in Revolutionary Road. The movie, however, earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He also won the Screen Actors Guild Award for best ensemble for his role in the reality television series titled Boardwalk Empire which aired from 2010 – 2014. The talented actor also received recognition for his role in the thriller titled Take Shelter in 2011.

The American actor has starred in several movies and has received several accolades for his brilliant and excellent roles in movies. Following his passion for music, Michael Shannon formed a rock band called Corporal in 2002. Since the inception of the band, Michael has been composing and singing with the band; other members of the band include Rob Beitzel and Ray Rizzo. The Corporal band released their debut album in 2010 of which one of the songs was dedicated to President Obama’s reelection.

Michael Corbett has been nominated for many awards including Academy Awards – two times under Best Supporting Actor category for his role in Revolutionary Road. He has also received nominations for Actors Guild Award and Golden Globe Award nominations as well as a Tony Award nomination for Featured Actor in a Play for his brilliant role in the movie titled Long Day’s Journey into Night.

He has further won eighteen out of seventy-nine nominations and he has worked with famous directors including Guillermo Del Toro who is a top-notch director in the Hollywood Film Industry.

Michael has been in a relationship with a fellow celebrity, an American actress named Kate Arrington. Kate is famous for playing Courtney in the movie titled Hello I Must Be Going and the popular reality television series titled Elementary.

The couple has been together since 2002 and has never been married though they have two children named Sylvia Shannon and Marion Shannon.

Currently, Michael and his family have been living together in Red Hook located in New York City.
