Going down memory lane in the Hollywood film industry, one would find the black and white TV goddess June Lockhart who was famous for her role as a mother in two popular TV series Lost in Space and Lassie.
June Lockhart’s Bio
This veteran actress is the daughter of Gene Lockhart a Canadian born actor and Kathleen Arthur Lockhart an English born actress. She was born in New York City on June 25, 1925 and her acting family background greatly influenced her career as an actress. At age 8, the young June started acting on stage and in 1938, she made her film debut in A Christmas Carol alongside her parents. In 1947, she starred on Broadway in For Love or Money which landed her a Tony Award for Outstanding Performance by a Newcomer. This brought her to the limelight as a talent to watch out for in the movie industry. In the 1950’s, the actress appeared in numerous films and TV series which include: Kin Hubbard (1951), a biographical play by Lawrence Riley in which actor Tom Ewell also starred. She made guest appearances in 1995 on CBS’s Appointment with Adventure, Gunsmoke, Have Gun – Will Travel, Rawhide and Wagon Train and Cimarron City on NBC.
The talented actress was also popular for her role as a mother in the CBS TV series Lassie where she was Ruth Martin, the wife of Paul Martin played by actor Hugh Reilly and her son was Timmy Martin played by actor Jon Provost. She also played a mother figure in the science fiction Lost in Space where she was Dr. Maureen Robinson in replacement of actress Cloris Leachman, the wife of Professor John Robinson played by actor Guy Williams. In the mid-1960’s, June stared in the Western series Death Valley Days and was on the TV series Petticoat Junction from 1968- 1970 as Dr. Janet Craig. From 1980-1990, she was featured in the ABC TV series General Hospital. The actress has also done voice acting in the Hanna-Barbara animated series These Are The Days in which she was Martha Day’s voice the lead actress. She was featured in the movie Troll alongside her daughter Anne Lockhart who has followed in her footsteps as an actress. Both of them have also appeared in the television series Magnum, P.I. (1981).
The actress also had her share of the entertainment industry in the 1990s and 2000s. She was in the TV series Full House (1991) as Miss Wiltrout a kindergarten teacher and in 1998 she was in the film version of Lost in Space after its first edition produced almost thirty years earlier. She starred as Misty Kiniski in The Drew Carey Show (2002) and was the voice of Grandma Emma Fowler in Focus (2004). June was also in the TV series Las Vegas (2004), Cold Case and Grey’s Anatomy. In 2007, she appeared in two movies Holiday in Handcuffs and Wesley. She was also in the 3D graphics movie Tesla Effect(2014).

In addition to her acting career, the talented June Lockhart has anchored for six years on CBS network the Miss USA Pageant and the Miss Universe Pageant. She was also the hostess for the Tournament of Roses Parade and the Thanksgiving Parade on CBS for 8 years and 5 years respectively.
Her mark in the movie industry cannot be underestimated and has stood the test of time, no wonder she has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame which are located at 6323 Hollywood Blvd and at 6362 Hollywood Blvd for her contribution to Motion Pictures and Television respectively.

The actress has two daughters Anne Kathleen Lockhart who was born in 1953 and June Elizabeth Maloney born in 1956 with ex-husband John Maloney whom she divorced in 1959 after 8years of marriage. She later married John C. Lindsay that same year but the marriage crashed in 1970. However, the couple had no children together.
