Ryan Sheckler can trace the immense success of his career back to the day he saw his father’s skateboard at the age of 2. Most people would remember him from his reality series Life of Ryan that premiered on MTV in 2007. Ryan is an entrepreneur, reality tv star, and professional skateboarder who signed his first professional contract when he was just nine years old.
Since then, he has become something of a household name when it comes to outdoor entertainment. Sheckler has also built a filmography that has seen him appear on more than ten projects including Red Bull TV’s Sheckler Sessions and 2010’s Tooth Fairy. Ryan Allen Sheckler was born on December 30, 1989, in San Clemente, California. He was just two years old when he stumbled onto a skateboard in the house. It turned out to be his father’s old skateboard. Ryan’s father, since then, began to push him in the direction of a skateboarding career. His story started at the skate park in the city of San Clemente.
The Californian skater got his first sponsors in 1998. He had been approached by Etnies skate shoe and Oakley, Inc., receiving his first Etnies skating shoes from the former in 1996.
When Almost skateboard company was launched in 2003 by veteran skateboarders Daewon Song and Rodney Mullen, Ryan Sheckler was brought on board as a foundational member and was subsequently elevated to professional status. For the company’s inaugural video Almost: Round Three, Ryan featured with a few other high profile skateboarders including Wilt, Lutzka, and the founders Rodney and Song.
After his time with Almost, he moved on to Plan B Skateboards deck and apparel company. Here, he got to work with the likes of Pat Duffy, Colin McKay, Paul Rodriguez and a host of others. At Plan B, he featured on some big events include the Mega Ramp Construction and Superfuture. The highlights of his performance include famously clearing a 55 feet (17 m) gap. Sheckler also had a photoshoot done by skateboard photographer Atiba Jefferson and his picture was on the cover of The Skateboard Mag.
In 2012, Ryan collaborated with Red Bull TV to launch the web series Sheckler Sessions. During this time he also started building a new training facility for skateboarders. The last episode of the second season of Sheckler Sessions was also the conclusion of the show. It aired in November 2013.
By May 2013, Sheckler had been skating in Etnies shoes for 15 years. A promotional video was released by the etnies brand to commemorate this milestone.
By this time in his career, the legendary skateboarder had competed in a slew of events and had the titles to show for it. Starting in 2012, Sheckler famously clinched the Dew Tour Streetstyle events title for three straight years
Over the course of his career, Ryan has garnered an enviable list of sponsors besides Oakley, Inc., and Etnies. Some of these names include Nixon, GoPro, Independent Trucks, Volcom, Red Bull, Andale and more. He has also been made into a playable character in a series of games including Tony Hawk’s Underground 2, Tony Hawk’s Project 8, and Tony Hawk: Ride.
In a bid to give back to the community, the skateboarder launched The Sheckler Foundation in 2008. The objective of the organization is to help in the rehabilitation of recovering athletes and to support children to pursue their dreams, athletic or otherwise. The organization has since held two flagship charity events on an annual basis: Skate for A Cause and Ryan Sheckler X Games Celebrity Golf Tournament. The next year after the opening of the foundation, Sheckler launched his clothing line RS.

Sheckler has two brothers, Shane and Kane, both of whom are younger than him. He was with Shane at the Etnies complex when he received his first free pair of skating shoes back in 1996.
Years later, during his time with Plan B, he started to shoot his MTV series Life of Ryan. The reality series also saw appearances from Ryan’s his two brothers. Tony, Taylor and Casey, three of his childhood friends also made appearances. Ryan decided to end the production of the show half-way into its third season. He felt that it was beginning to take him away from his core fans and the world of skateboarding as a whole.
