Kyle Edmund is an English tennis player, the highest ranked male Brit in Tennis since March 2018. His success today can be linked to hard work rather than just mere talent. Despite starting as a cricketer and swimmer, he decided to opt for tennis at the age of 13, and with strong guidance and mentorship, he has gone on to become one of the most successful English tennis players in history.

Kyle Edmund Biography

Kyle Steven Edmund was born in South Africa on the 8th of January 1995. At the age of three, he moved to the UK with his parents where he was raised in a small village in Tilton. He had his elementary school education at Pilkington School. Upon graduating from elementary school, he attended the Beverly Grammar school until age 13.

Growing up, he had zero interest in tennis and was highly interested in cricket and swimming. He first developed an interest in tennis in 2005 right after he received lessons from Coach Richard Phlews at the David Llyod Racquet and Fitness Club in Hull. In 2008, he moved to Cannons, Hull with John Back for training. The following year, they both moved to Bisham, Abbey. He would later decide to train at the Lawn Tennis Association’s National Training Centre in Roehampton under the guidance of Colin Beecher.

In 2011, Kyle made his first appearance in the junior tier at the US Open. He had an impressive run in the competition but was eventually eliminated in the semifinals with him losing to eventual runner-up, Jiri Vesely. Later that year, he was among the team that won the first ever Junior Davis Cup for Great Britain. The following year, he clinched his first junior Grand Slam title at the US Open, in the double event category alongside Frederico Ferreira Silva.

2013 saw him make his first ever senior appearance in a Grand Slam event at Wimbledon, but he was plagued with hard luck throughout the competition, losing in straight sets at the men’s singles, doubles and mixed doubles.

In 2015, he made his second major appearance at a Grand Slam tournament in the Australian Open. That same year, he won the Davis’ Cup as well as the Hong Kong Challenger with him defeating the then world number 94, Tatsuma Ito. The year 2016 can be said to be his breakthrough year. He qualified for the Qatar Open, the Australian Open, as well as the Davis’ cup as Top seed. Since then, he has been on the constant rise with him going on to reach the semi-finals in the Australian Open, as well as the ATP final in 2018 which helped boost his ranking. He is currently ranked Number 14 in World Tennis.

There is no record of the net worth of this British Tennis player. Nonetheless, according to ATP, he has earned an estimated $4.3 million as prize money so far in his career, a figure which is expected to rise given his recent form.

After his amazing performance at the 2018 Australian Open, he caught the eyes of the multi-billion dollar sports brand, Nike. He eventually penned his signature to a 4 year deal with the company. Although the exact figures were not revealed, it’s only normal for one to expect it to be in at least 6 figures.

Not much is known about the family of Kyle Edmund simply because he likes to keep his personal life as well as that of his family far away from the media as much as possible. However, we know his parent names to be Steven Edmund (Father) and Denise Nee Vosloo (Mother).

His father who works as a director in his own renewable energy firm is an English man born in Wales, but he spent most of his childhood in Zimbabwe, before moving to South Africa in his late teens. His mother, on the other hand, is from South Africa, she was born and raised in the country.

Kyle once revealed that prior to getting his LTA funding, his parents were the ones who sponsored him, with them spending tens of thousands of dollars to get him where he is today.

Kyle has a younger sister by the name of Kelly Edmund, she was born in June 1996. Kelly holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, a degree which she bagged from Northumbria University in the fall of 2017.

Who’s His Girlfriend?

As of the date of this post, Kyle Edmund is very much a single man. There is no record of any past relationship, whatsoever. Even as it circulated in 2017 that he was having a romantic relationship with a woman in the Lawn Tennis Association, he rebuffed such claims. When asked in an interview about his partner he simply replied that he was single before going on to state: “I heard they are trouble”.
