His first YouTube upload was an audition video which he had put up just for a casting director to view. However, the video caught the attention of over a thousand viewers and that birthed the idea of YouTube vlogging in Alex. His rise to online fame was a bit slow but he remained persistent and has been able to garner over 450,000 subscribers on his channel “Alex Mandel Vlog”.

Alex Mandel Biography

Alex Mandel was born on September 30, 1989, in Los Angeles, California. His parents are Howie and Terry Mandel. Alex was raised alongside his 2 sisters, one older and the other younger.

As a young schoolboy, he was withdrawn and had a morbid fear of speaking in front of people. Whenever an occasion arose for him to perform in a school play, he’d usually retreat to a corner and cry his heart out. He was also diagnosed with severe ADHD, his education was hampered and he eventually stopped schooling for a while.

In an attempt to overcome his fear of public speaking, Alex decided to join the theatre group in his local community. As a member of the group, he discovered that not only did he have the innate ability to entertain but he also enjoyed making others happy.

Armed with a new found passion for acting, Alex found the zeal to return to school and complete his education. While in high school, his father allowed him to take on a few TV roles. He eventually completed his high school education in 2008. After high school, he enrolled at the California State University Northridge where he majored in Theatre. He quit college after only 2 years to pursue a professional acting career.

Being a comedian, Alex was cast in a number of prank TV shows including Scare Tactics, Destination Fear and Howie Do It, which was produced by his father Howie Mandel. He also enrolled at the Stella Adler Acting Academy in Hollywood to hone his skills.

Everything To Know About Alex Mandel

Alex Mandel is the son of Canadian actor, comedian and TV personality Howie Mandel. In January 2010, Howie was announced as a judge on America’s Got Talent.

As a child, Alex spoke with a serious stutter. It got so bad that the young Alex went mute for nearly one year. Thanks to the speech therapy which he underwent, he was able to get over it and began to speak normally.

As an actor, Alex Mandel featured in the hidden camera prank show Scare Tactics (2003) and in the 2012 comedy film Noobz. He also had the directing and writing credits for 6 episodes of the 2014 comedy TV series Odd Jobs.

His journey to internet stardom was kind of accidental. He started out streaming comedy videos on the website Stickam.com. From a few viewers which he had, Alex was able to build his audience to over 20,000. Unfortunately, the site lost its sponsors and was shut down, along with the wide audience that Alex had been able to build.

Having suffered the disappointment of losing his first hard-earned internet audience, the talented comedian had his acting career to fall back on. He also embraced his YouTube career and built it from the scratch. His first YouTube upload was however not intended for the public. He had recorded a video for a TV role he was gunning for and was asked to put it on YouTube for the casting director to have a look at. The role he auditioned for was a funny one and soon the video began to attract many other viewers. In less than 24 hours, the video garnered an incredible 1,000 views.

YouTube was a mind-boggling discovery for the vlogger as he found it as liberating as his initial website. However, he found it hard to break into the YouTube community, even though he had a strong background in vlogging. In the first few years on YouTube, he only managed to get 1,000 subscribers.

He, however, remained undaunted and kept pushing. He began attending VidCon, the yearly gathering of the biggest YouTubers and online viewers. Armed with critical advice from newfound mentors, coupled with his background as a producer and actor, Alex Mandel eventually made a headway and his YouTube stats began to climb. He also landed collaborations with other prominent YouTubers such as Roman Atwood and Dennis Roady.

Eventually, Alex got noticed by the online community and landed himself a job as the Director of Prank at Break Media (now Defy Media). He was very successful at Break but decided to quit in order to concentrate on his own career.

Apart from his main YouTube channel, Alex Mandel has another YouTube Channel “Alex Mandel Drinks” where he prepares his own original cocktails.
