He put pen to his first professional contract in August 2010 and would go on to help Southampton get promoted from the League One to the Championships.

However, he wasn’t able to endure to the end of his 3-year contract as Arsenal came in August 2011 with a better deal. Though the terms of the deal were concealed, it was speculated to worth between £12 million and £15 million. In his debut season with the gunners, Alex scored his first UEFA Champions League goal against Greek side Olympiacos, making him the youngest English player to score at the stage, beating Theo Walcott’s record.

With the gunners, Alex won three FA Cup titles (2 of which were consecutive) and one FA Community Shield.
